Summary
Living in the Los Angeles wasteland can be tough - especially when you’re just some dude whose only real skill is computer hacking. So, Artie Gonzalez spends most of his days building drones, modifying his bipolar robot girlfriend, and scavenging for his next pair of Chuck Taylors. Artie watched the world end 10 years ago. That was after the famous programmer Satoshi Nakamoto released the world’s first sentient artificial intelligence.
Now planet Earth is a dump and Artie has finally accepted that fact, doing what any other respectable tech-nerd might do in his situation - build a post-apocalyptic man-cave. But the world is much different than he thinks. He’ll soon learn that thugs, raiders, and the occasional mutant are the least of his concerns. Something terrible is making its way from the east, kidnapping humans and rendering cities desolate - and Artie may be the only one with the skills to stop it. With the help of some new friends, Artie is about to embark upon the quest of a lifetime - and maybe earn some Bitcoin along the way.

Pretty good sci-if story
Overall I think this book is pretty good. Looking at the story it has some flaws but generally is very enjoyable. The writing for female characters isn’t particularly great, but generally most of the protagonists are nicely written.
The audio is where I think I most have a problem with this book. Having the author be the reader for an audiobook can be a tough sell and honestly I think it would have been better with a voice actor performing the role. Some of the inflections and pronunciations were off like pronouncing Cthulhu as “tch-hulu”.
Generally a good read, and I look forward to hearing the rest of the story.

Unfortunately not worth listening to.
While the Last Hacker is an acceptable first draft of a first attempt at a novel, this book needs major revision before it can be called a good book.
Poor quality writing and terrible depiction of female characters are just the beginning of the issues present in this particular book.
From an audiobook perspective, the author does a poor job of putting inflection into his voice and often mispronounced words. One that I found humours was the cthulu being pronounced "tchulu".
I encourage the author to rework this piece and readers / listeners to enjoy other works until he has done so.
