Story
The first rule of Sunday Lunch Club is...don't make any afternoon plans.
Every few Sundays, Anna and her extended family and friends get together for lunch. They talk, they laugh, they bicker, they eat too much. Sometimes the important stuff is left unsaid, other times it's said in the wrong way.
Sitting between her ex-husband and her new lover, Anna is coming to terms with an unexpected pregnancy at the age of 40. Also at the table are her ageing grandmother, her promiscuous sister, her flamboyantly gay brother and a memory too terrible to contemplate.
Until, that is, a letter arrives from the person Anna scarred all those years ago. Can Anna reconcile her painful past with her uncertain future?
Juliet Ashton weaves a story of love, friendship and community that will move you to laughter and to tears. Think Cold Feet meets David Nicholls, with a dash of the joy of Jill Mansell added for good measure.

The Last Chance Saloon
I have been reluctant to purchase this audio book but am immensely grateful that I have eventually done so. The well chosen narrator brings the story alive. This novel, like all of Marian Keyes others ,is fantastic. It's full of realistic characters, so well developed that I find myself wondering what they will do next as if the story carries on some where beyond the fictional realm of this great book. Well worth the listen/read.

Appalling narration
Love the storyline and the characters but unfortunately I must agree with others this was appalling try of imitating Irish accent. It really sounded 'oirish'. Really sad as I love MK books and this one would be a definitely come back but I guess I will rather read than listen.

Worst accents ever!
Is there anything you would change about this book?
The narrator! She simply can't do accents.
What other book might you compare The Last Chance Saloon to, and why?
Rachel's Holiday by the same author. Fun, easy to listen to.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
She simply can't do any accent apart from English. Initially I thought she was doing a weird Irish dialect, but that's not the case. Irish men and women sound identically awful. The male Italian character sounds asian half the time and never Italian! The poor Swedish girl sounds like no nationality. I won't buy Sushi For Beginners because the same woman is narrating it.
Any additional comments?
Great, fun, should be easy to listen to utterly ruined by narrator.

Narration ruins this
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Narration is horrendous, this is one of my favourite Marian Keyes books, I had forgotten about it until I saw it as a title in a recent BOGOF promo on Audible, now I know why it was free.
What did you like best about this story?
Great story
Who might you have cast as narrator instead of Juanita McMahon?
Anyone, it would have done fine with any natural accent, it was the appalling attempt at an Irish accent that killed it.
Was The Last Chance Saloon worth the listening time?
Not in this incarnation

Good book ruined by the narrator.
I love Marian Keyes books and this one is no exception, but the narrator has a really bad Irish accent. Not quite nails down a black board, but certainly irritating. It did distract from the story slightly, but not enough for me to stop listening. The book it's self and the story is good and over all I did enjoy it, but I can't help feeling it would have been 5* review if it had been read by an Irish narrator.
Persevere if you like Marian Keyes books, it is worth it in the end.

Five stars for book, only one for the narration
Sorely disappointed in the 'oirish' narration (where required) really grated on me making it difficult to get caught up in the story as i had in reading the book. Dreadful Irish accent i'm sorry to say has meant i have abandoned listening and unearthed the novel after many years!! Seemed to get worse as the book went on, really annoying....sorry to go on about it but it really has spoiled it for me. The book itself is a great wee read and well worth investing in.

Great book, shame about the narrator
I would give the book itself 4 or 5 stars, but unfortunately this narrator really lets it down. I bought this book after listening to This Charming Man, which I thoroughly enjoyed, and was superbly narrated by someone who was either Irish, or did a great Irish accent - the accents in this book were hopelessly distracting at best, and intensely irritating at worst. I didn't finish this book until a few months after buying it, when I was desperate and had nothing else - thankfully the story is good, but my advice would be to buy it as a book, or download one of Marian's other books, as all the other narrators are fabulous!

Last Chance Saloon: Brilliant
I've read most of Marian Keys work and thoroughly enjoyed it. However, in the summer of 2004, I borrowed Last Chance Saloon from my local library and oh my goodness what a read? This book is hillarious, very sad and somewhat erie in it's narrating. It's excellent - and I can't wait to own it off audible.com. A great read for those of you who like chick lit, and if you're feeling down today, this hillarious, yet poignant work will put everything into perspective for you. I can't wait till 1 March when I can get this title of audible. Lesley in Swansea UK

One of Ms. Keyes best novels. Her characters are all very human and the story is very conceivable. Good ending- I wish she would write a sequel on some of the characters like she did with the Walsh sisters in "Rachel's Holiday"

That Wannabe `Irish accent again
There's a lot of people out there who actually speak Irish accents well, and there's a lot of Irish narrators. Could you please find one who doesn't massacre the language like this lady? Made the book heavy going. I tried this book to see if she had got any better, but no.

Excellent Chicklit!
What did you love best about The Last Chance Saloon?
The way the links between the characters came clear in the end, and all were tied together in some way. The story was entertaining and slightly twisty.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Last Chance Saloon?
Lorkin Larkin getting his comeuppance!
Have you listened to any of Juanita McMahon’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Juanita McMahon was excellent as always. Love the accents, and the characters were very consistent in their nuances.
Any additional comments?
A bit long winded at times when you are just thinking "for god's sake Tara, just stop eating! Just dump Thomas!". Overall a very enjoyable listening experience, bit boring in the middle, but didn't want it to end!

Do you think The Last Chance Saloon needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
No I don't think it did.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Great story and fabulous narrator...more like listening to a play than a book.
What did you like best about this story?
Everything...I just love anything by Marian Keyes though...real life situations with an element of humour in everything.
What does Juanita McMahon bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I have read the book and now listened to it...the characters come alive with her voice...she is brilliant.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Fintan losing his hair in the shower...I cried and cried.
Any additional comments?
Listen to anything narrated by Juanita McMahon - she is a very talented narrator.
