Summary

As Lucy Muchelney watches her ex-lover’s sham of a wedding, she wishes herself anywhere else. It isn’t until she finds a letter from the countess of Moth, looking for someone to translate a groundbreaking French astronomy text, that she knows where to go. Showing up at the countess’ London home, she hoped to find a challenge, not a woman who takes her breath away.

Catherine St Day looks forward to a quiet widowhood once her late husband’s scientific legacy is fulfilled. She expected to hand off the translation and wash her hands of the project - instead, she is intrigued by the young woman who turns up at her door, begging to be allowed to do the work, and she agrees to let Lucy stay. But as Catherine finds herself longing for Lucy, everything she believes about herself and her life is tested.

While Lucy spends her days interpreting the complicated French text, she spends her nights falling in love with the alluring Catherine. But sabotage and old wounds threaten to sever the threads that bind them. Can Lucy and Catherine find the strength to stay together, or are they doomed to be star-crossed lovers?

Great F/F Romance

This book is lovely. The characters are interesting. The science is cool. Embroidery galore! It really is a treasure and I highly suggest it.

The narrator is absolutely fantastic. Morag differentiated the two main characters well and the other characters were well done. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this person speak!

Excellent

As far as historical romances go, this is now in my top 5. Do you like good romance writing, a satisfying plot, women's achievements being celebrated and a juicy slow burn romance? Then what are you waiting for - use that credit! Fyi I found to my relief that one doesn't need to know much about or love astronomy to love this book. One may even learn something.
The narration only enhances an already extraordinary lesbian romance novel. Highly recommended.

Absolutely Beautiful

I usually dislike audiobooks, but I absolutely loved the performance of this one! The book itself was also beautifully written! An excellently witty novel about smart women in love.

Give this book a try.

Good Audiobook.
Give it a try, I did and enjoyed how easy it was to listen to the story. I liked the book.
There should be a Book 2 to continue with the story.

Nice Book

I loved the story and I did like the narrator even though some of her word pronunciations were weird and also when she was doing the french person's accent, it was too much, especially since the accent was described as being light. She layer it on way too thick and at times I didn't understand what she was saying.

overall though, the book was really nice and I'll be listening to any and all sequels

Excellent.

I loved The Ladies Guide. I loved the story. Imagine back when women had to publish under their husbands or fathers name. It makes your blood boil. I wish I had read or listened to this sooner. I admit I let the title throw me. Morag Sims does an excellent job with the narration.

Pleasantly surprised!

Loved it! Well written, wonderfully narrated and a satisfying "twist" at the end. Not a typical period piece!
