Summary

A shaven-headed man finds himself in a strange, four-sided chamber with no recollection of how he got there or who he is. The only thing of interest in this chamber is a gargantuan ladder that stretches far beyond the eye can see. There are no doors or windows, no means of escape but upwards. So he begins to climb.
