He inherited a flat, a dog, and a life he absolutely did not ask for.

Oliver Whitmore likes order. He likes schedules, clean lines, reliable structures, and doors that stay closed when he closes them. Then his late aunt leaves him her Hammersmith flat and her black Labrador, Rosie, a clever, affectionate menace with a taste for pencils, television remotes, and personal boundaries.

Rosie has other plans.

After one spectacular escape turns a local dog-training class into chaos, Oliver meets Mae Calloway, an American trainer on a temporary stay in London. Mae is warm, capable, and entirely too good at seeing through both Rosie’s behavior and Oliver’s carefully managed composure. What begins as a six-week training programme quickly becomes something much harder to contain: tea after sessions, walks through the park, quiet conversations at the kitchen table, and the alarming realization that Rosie may not be the only one learning how to come when called.

But Mae’s life in London was never meant to be permanent. A dream job waits for her back in Savannah, and the more she falls for Oliver, the more complicated leaving becomes. Meanwhile, a rival dog trainer starts circling Mae’s clients, forcing her to decide what she wants, where she belongs, and whether something uncertain is always something to fear.

Funny, tender, and full of canine chaos, The Labrador Clause is a sweet romantic comedy about unexpected inheritance, reluctant devotion, found home, and one very good dog who knows exactly what she’s doing.

This book is a must-listen for dog lovers. Oliver and Mae are very sweet and their romance is lovely, but Rosie steals the show. I could listen to her escapades all day, she is an absolute (unrepentant) delight! James Butler totally nailed the narration.

A review copy of this book was sent to me by the author. All of the above opinions are my own.

A must-listen for dog lovers.
