About this listen

The electrifying new thriller from the author of the word-of-mouth best-selling sensation The Wicked Girls, Alex Marwood.

No. 23 has a secret. In this bedsit-riddled south London wreck, lorded over by a lecherous landlord, something waits to be discovered. Yet all six residents have something to hide. Collette and Cher are on the run; Thomas is a reluctant loner; while a gorgeous Iranian asylum seeker and a 'quiet man' nobody sees try to stay hidden. And watching over them all is Vesta - or so she thinks.

In the dead of night, a terrible accident pushes the neighbours into an uneasy alliance. But one of them is a killer, expertly hiding their pastime, all the while closing in on their next victim.... As a cloying heatwave suffocates the city, events build to an electrifying climax in this dark, original, and irresistibly compelling thriller.

This was an excelent listen, and it was hard to leave before the end.
The word on this one is that it's quite as good as "The Wicked Girls". I wouldn't know, because that book is not available to members of Audible. So it would seem I have to unsuscribe and then suscribe again to get that book. And it's not the first time this happened to a book I was looking for.

I wished I could buy the first book!

Dark, tense, funny, with great characters and superbly read by Imogen Church. Not sure why this book stayed in my library for so long before reading it but I'm so glad I have now.

Do you really know your neighbours?

Yes

Who was your favorite character and why?

The Landlord made me squirm

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Gruesome but believable with some comic twists (Black comedy)

Any additional comments?

Despite feeling a bit ill at the graphic descriptions the plot was very good , believable with lots of twists and a satisfactory ending , very entertaining.

Very Black Murder Mystery

Any additional comments?

I listened to this book straight through and thoroughly enjoyed it. Alex Marwood explored all her characters bringing them to life. She injected wonderful black humour with a disgusting landlord, a Norman Bates style killer, a chirpy young girl who really lived up to her name "Cher" and of course the requisite baddie. The overflowing basement flat and the description left me wondering if I actually wanted to eat my dinner. Especially when she got to the "crunchy" bits. Looking forward to her next book and will be interested to see what style she chooses. Recommend to all Mo Hayder fans.

Black humour at its delightful best

Would you consider the audio edition of The Killer Next Door to be better than the print version?

I haven't read the print version, but the narrator was superb. Really made the book come to life

Who was your favorite character and why?

Vesta, I wanted her to be my next door neighbour. A real 'salt of the earth' character. I thought all the characters were excellent

What does Imogen Church bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Her voices were sublime. It made the book so lively. You could picture all the characters from her voices. Best narration I've heard

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

It was all brilliant, from the first word to the last

Any additional comments?
