About this listen

Frankie Gallows has spent seven years paying his dues on the stand-up comedy circuit with only limited success, but when he finally lands a headline slot at London’s legendary King Alfred’s Theatre, the opportunity comes with a sinister catch: perform a joke handed to him by the theatre manager—or risk everything.

Darkly comic and unsettling, The Joke is a supernatural tale of ambition, sacrificing artistic integrity, and what lurks in the shadows of the stage. Some jokes kill. Others damn you for not telling them.

The Joke is exactly what it says on the tin, and then some. Steve McElhenny has cooked up a fast-paced little comedy snack that's equal parts bizarre and brilliant. It's only an hour long, so is a quick listen.
Steve's sense of humour is… well, let’s call it “delightfully strange.” Think Monty Python meets a fever dream. And somehow, it works perfectly. Benjamin Philip Hawkins nails the narration, with a voice that invites you to enjoy every second of it.
I’ve already listened to it twice in the 36 hours since I got it, and I’m tempted to go for round three.
I was kindly given a copy of the book by the author and leave this honest review.

A fantastically spooky, witty and well narrated story from the usual high calibre of the author. As a big fan of his previous works, this is certainly in keeping with that high standard. The story is original, very well written and the narrator helps to keep the tension up with his brilliant deliverance. A definite recommended read, it will keep you on the edge of your seat, wondering how our protagonist will escape his almost certain doom...

The Jokes on you...if you DONT read this!
