About this listen

John Hooper's marvelously entertaining and perceptive new book is ideal for anyone seeking to understand contemporary Italy and the unique character of the Italians.

Looking at the facts that lie behind and often belie the stereotypes, his revealing book sheds new light on many aspects of Italian life: football and Freemasonry, sex, symbolism, and the reason Italian has twelve words for a coat hanger yet none for a hangover

I read a review that this would just be yet another book on la Dolce Vita.
It is much more and very informative as well as interesting

A fresh and updated approach on Italy

A phenomenal book, possibly the best on the subject matter. And that's coming from an Italian man who moved abroad a few years ago. It's incredibly accurate, to the point, and very insightful. A book that every Italian should read, and that anyone who wants to truly understand Italians must study. Too bad the narrator mispronounces most Italian words.

Possibly *the BEST* book ever written on Italians

It surely isn’t a scientific paper, but it is an interesting profile of the Italian people. It shows a lot of characteristics and is trying to not be stereotypical about them and mostly doesn’t fail. Still it’s just a personal view.

Interesting profile of the Italians

I downloaded this book for a trip to Sicily. I had expected it to be one of those funny irreverent takes someone's personal experience of living in Italy. In fact it was an incredibly comprehensive, fact packed study of all aspects of the Italian psyche. The style is nevertheless extremely engaging and never lacks pace. Given the background of the author as a journalist there is a strong focus on politics, but for me that added to the authenticity of the insights. Highly recommended.

Informative and engaging insight

I really enjoyed the book - a very sympathetic insight into the Italians. Lots of material that was new to me and very interesting interpretations that were well structured and succinctly explained. I will use the physical book to look again at some of the chapters on the Italian psyche and outlook
