Dear Mr. Vega: I felt it necessary to follow up on today’s meeting, since we weren’t able to speak candidly in front of your son. I was shocked to discover that you are Ryder’s dad. I think it would be best if we just pretend that we met in person for the first time today. Your son is a very bright (flirtatious and talkative) student and since his education is a top priority for both of us, I hope I can count on you to respectfully refrain from grinning at me, using that sexy tone of voice, and undressing me with your annoyingly beautiful brown eyes....

Story
While Navy SEAL Rafe Buchanan is stuck at the airport, he is captivated by the woman cursing a blue streak with a take no prisoners attitude. He invites her for drinks and realizes she's everything he gave up hoping he'd find. But a random glance at a TV monitor ends their flirting when Meghan Henley sees her brother's missionary group was kidnapped in Afghanistan. Meghan turns to Rafe as her world is flipped upside down. How could one man already mean so much to her? And Rafe is determined to help the woman who has stolen his heart.
Summary
The only man who can keep her safe is her boss’ gorgeous brother.
Museum curator Haven McKinney has sworn off men. All of them. Totally. She’s recently escaped a bad ex and started a new life for herself in San Francisco. She loves her job at the Hutton Museum, likes her new boss, and has made best friends with his feisty sister. Haven’s also desperately trying not to notice their brother: hotshot investigator Rhys Norcross. And she’s really trying not to notice his muscular body, sexy tattoos, and charming smile.
Nope, Rhys is off limits. But then Haven finds herself in the middle of a deadly situation....
Investigator Rhys Norcross is good at finding his targets. After leaving an elite military team, he thrives on his job at his brother’s security firm, Norcross Security. He’s had his eye on smart, sexy Haven for a while, but the pretty curator with her eyes full of secrets is proving far harder to chase down than he anticipated.
Luckily, Rhys never, ever gives up.
When thieves target the museum and steal a multi-million-dollar painting in a daring theft, Haven finds herself right in the middle of a deadly situation. With the painting gone and Haven in danger, Rhys vows to do whatever it takes to keep her safe, and Haven finds herself risking the one thing she was trying so hard to protect — her heart.
Note to listeners: This is a sexy, fast-paced romance with a heroine in danger who’s sworn off men (and gets kidnapped…a lot) and a hot, tattooed former military hero (who looks fine in a suit and rolls his sleeves up showing off his ink).

A refreshing suspense
It's so nice to have a heroine with a back bone! This is a fast paced book, that keeps on track throughout. Both main and secondary characters were well built and described. I look forward to hearing more of this series! I enjoyed the narration, however, Stella's narration was a little breathy and once I heard it, I couldn't unhear it 🤷🏼♀️

Damn it was entertaining!
It wasn’t the book of the year, but damn it was entertaining! Especially as an audiobook, as both narrators are extremely talented and bring life to the characters. I loved it. The suspense part of the story was gripping, with multiple twists and turns. I’d have liked to see more about the investigation–since it’s in the title–but I was never bored. There’s a lot of action and, for once, it doesn’t come only from the male characters. Haven, even as a typical damsel in distress, isn’t weak. She has a tremendous amount of courage–she’s scared but still tries to save other people, by any way she can. That makes the little reverse power play with alpha male Rhys Norcross even sexier. Here we have a regular instalove story. The connection between Haven and Rhys is mostly depicted through the characters’ feelings. I didn’t see it. But when they actually do the deed, oh my, what a chemistry! It’s extra swoony and steamy. As the first book in the series, there may have been a bit too much time dedicated to the introduction of future characters who don’t have much to do here. And I’d have liked for Haven’s relationship with Haven to be a bit more explicit–I didn’t really see a strong bond between two alleged best friends. But I still can’t wait to read or to listen to about the rest of the Norcross family.

Fantastic Story & Narration🎧 A Captivating Ride!
I enjoyed this book immensely, it is a great, action packed romantic suspense. The story drew me right in, grabbing my attention and captivating it straight to the end. The characters are nicely developed, easy to like and connect with. After catching her ex with another woman Haven McKinney left Miami and her life behind. Getting away as far from him as possible she moved to west coast. She landed a dream job, a curator in a privately owned museum. She loves her boss Easton Norcross and has become good friends with his sister became good friends with her bosses sister, Gia. Easton also has two brothers, they are all badasses and former military. Vander owns Norcross Security and Investigations and Rhys works there as well. Haven thought Vander was the scary brother but Rhys scared her in other ways, she is attracted to him but he is a player and a heartbreaker and off limits because he is her best friends brother. And she has sworn off men. Rhys is attracted to Haven and notices her every time she is in the room. He was furious when he saw how roughed up she was by the art thieves, I loved how protective he got with her. Haven has a feistiness about her, she is her own person and not one to be told what to do. So while Norcross Security investigates the theft she does a little investigating herself, which winds up getting her in more trouble. She sure had a knack for both getting into trouble and attracting it. This fast paced story with interesting storylines that are cleverly plotted with plenty of drama, angst, twists and turns, action, thrilling suspense, heartfelt and emotional moments and a hot romance. Anna Hackett, thank you for this great story, I am looking forward to what comes next in this series. 🎧📚🎧 And for the wonderful narration, Stella Bloom and Teddy Hamilton were perfect cast to bring these characters to life. They did an awesome job portraying the characters, humanizing them, giving each their own voice and personality, as well as heart and attitude. Stella Bloom’s take on Haven was spot on, she took the role and made it her own. Teddy Hamilton did the same with Rhys. Both were amazing with the secondary characters as well. They are talented narrators and entertaining storytellers, it is always a pleasure to listen to their work. Thank you for another awesome listen🎧

new author for me. Really enjoyed the book - a good mix of action and romance. Haven seems to find herself in the middle of a lot of situations so if damsel in distress is your thing you will love it. Loved Rhys. Talk about the teaser for the next book! Looking forward to more from the series and author. I love Teddy Hamilton but I don't enjoy Stella Bloom - she always sounds ditzy and I don't like her voice inflections.

Meet the Norcross family!
With romantic suspense being my favorite of all romance genres, this book pushed all the right buttons for me. My first Anna Hackett book, I was pulled into the Norcross family and had to listen to find out what was going to happen next. Haven's life is slowly falling into place. New job, no men, she is happy being a museum curator until one of the most beautiful and expensive paintings is stolen on her watch. Blaming herself, she is distraught, and to top it off, Rhys Norcross, her boss's brother is heading the investigation. Sticking to her "sworn off men" regime is going to be hard with this alpha male who definitely has an attraction to her. Will she be able to resist the charms? More importantly, will she be safe? Will they find the painting? High suspense, a fantastic family building story and an off the charts chemistry that keeps the earbud glued to your ears, this story is amazing. I was caught up in the action, loved Haven's never ending determination to find the painting and the over protectiveness of Rhys. I can't wait to see what Hackett has in store for the other Norcross siblings! Not only is the story fantastic, but Hackett has a cast the best narrators to bring the story to life. Stella Bloom becomes Haven. She is sassy, yet reserved and has a stubborn streak that Bloom pulls out of her with a voice perfect for Haven's personality. Team her with Teddy Hamilton as Rhys, the alpha, determined, charismatic, protector and the performance is gold.

Amazing Romantic Suspense!
This was my first Anna Hackett's book, and definitely won't be my last. This is the first book in the Norcross Series, a captivating Romantic Suspense. Haven and Rhys's story is fast paced, funny, suspenseful, and action packed. The characters are wonderful. Haven is independent, strong, and determined. Rhys is handsome, sexy, and protective. Rhys's siblings, Vandor, Easton, and Gia, are wonderful supporting characters, and I can't wait to know more about them. Stella Bloom and Teddy Hamilton did a fantastic job with the narration. I enjoyed it. Looking forward to listen to the next book in the Series, Troubleshooter, Gia and Saxon's story.

Good story with great narrators
I enjoyed this book. It was well written and I loved meeting all the Norcross brothers. Haven was a strong-willed woman which I appreciate so much. She left an abusive relationship at first hit. Any time was in trouble, she tried to save herself and not just depend on a man. Rhys is former military alpha who wants to protect Haven. But he definitely has a soft spot for her. The gooey center as I call it often. I did listen to this audiobook. Teddy Hamilton was great, per the norm. Stella Bloom is wonderful and she has a great make voice. The only thing I didn’t like was the story is in third person POV.

Another great book by this author
This is another great book by Anna Hackett. I can't wait to get the next one. This will be my 4th series of books by this author. I only got the book 2 days ago and alright listened to it twice. Her books are hard to stop in the middle of once I get listening. All her books I find myself stay up until the end. There are nights I find it 2 or 3 in the morning when it finishes and curse myself for not stopping. That's only leaving me with a few hours of sleep before I have to go to work. I love her books that much. I still have a few of her other series to start while waiting for the next one so I am looking at some more nights were I have a few hours of sleep. I am looking forward to another great series from her.

Love this new series
This new series is really good! As always Anna Hackett creates interesting characters! I always enjoy Stella Bloom. Couldn’t really get into Teddy Hamilton’s voice as Rhys. But all in all work the credit for this book! I had already read it and got the audible too!

Love the story! Love the characters! Just Love it all!!
I LOVED this one!! The story is exciting and filled with danger. The bond these characters have for one another is what I only dream of having. I couldn’t get enough of them. The connection these two main characters have can be felt coming off the pages. Haven is very resistant to a relationship and I loved it. She is a smart girl who we find is feisty, when needed. Per her problem of being a kidnap victim...repeatedly, she gets drawn into this family of alpha protective men and one sassy sister. They all have such a wonderful camaraderie that I couldn’t stop listening. I want to be their friend or in their world. My only comment is: I WANT MORE! This is a first time author for me and I’m not sure how I have missed her before. These stories are a delight to listen to as I sit on the edge of my seat wondering what will happen next. I did listen to this on audio. Stella Bloom and Teddy Hamilton are the narrators. Of course they rock this! I really can’t wait for more!

Kidnapping galore
I wanted to like this but the plot was ridiculous. The heroine was getting kidnapped every chapter or abused! You would think with her life in danger she would be a little more careful...not sure what the author was thinking but in real life these so called security experts would not have a job. I finally gave up on this because the storyline kept pissing me off. The narration was good even though Stella Bloom isn’t one of my favorites. Teddy was stellar as usual.

Thrilling and Steamy Suspenceful Romance!
What a thrilling and steamy start to the Norcross series. The Investigator is a great combination of romance, suspense and mystery. Haven McKinney is starting a new life in a new city after escaping a bad ex. She loves her new job as the museum curator of Hutton Museum. She also has become close to her boss and his sister. Unfortunately, she can't ignore the sparks that fly between her and their sexy ex military brother and hotshot investigator, Rhys Norcross. That is until a robbery happens, and Haven is caught in the middle. Rhys has wanted Haven from the first moment he laid eyes on her, but has kept his distance. Now that her life is in danger, he will do whatever it takes to keep her safe, and make her his. I liked how determined Haven was to recover the stolen painting, and not be left out of the action. Rhys is the ultimate swoony alpha. But no matter how he tried to make Haven stay safe, he could never deny her anything. This fast paced, steamy forbidden romance was brought to life flawlessly by the talented Stella Bloom, and Teddy Hamilton. Hamilton had the perfect balance of Ryhs smoldering, alpha dominance, with a swoony tender side, and Bloom showed us Haven's strength and resilience so beautifully. I loved listening to them both as they drew me in, and made this story, with all it's twists and turns, even more exciting.
