Summary

More demons, epic battles and fights to the death: introducing the unmissable next instalment in the Summoner Trilogy....

On trial for a crime he did not commit, Fletcher must face the Inquisition, who will decide his future. The process is grueling, led by those who will do anything to see him suffer and haunted by ghosts from the past with clues to Fletcher's tragic origins.

But Fletcher has little time to dwell on these new revelations when the king announces a deadly challenge to the graduating students at Vocans. One that involves entering Orc territory to complete a risky mission. With loyal demons by their sides, commoners and nobles, dwarves and elves must overcome barriers of class and race and work together to triumph. The reward: a fortune in gold, the safety of an empire and peace.

With the entire empire watching, Fletcher has much to prove, but there are those out to get him, and it soon becomes clear that there's a traitor in their midst, trying to thwart the mission and create unrest within the empire. With everything stacked against him, Fletcher must use everything in his power to fight his way to victory.

Loved it but a bit little character introduction

The book was superbly well written with a story that while sometimes a bit liner to those veteran readers/listeners like my self it still manged to keep me on edge in this book you see the start of a "closer" relationship between Fletcher and sylva which i promise is not cringey it brings the same elements to the table as the first book with a few additions
The narrator is the same as the first book and while Stephen fry is better he is the second best which is high praise indeed
Too conclude the book is a brilliant second installment in the serious and manages too end on a cliffhanger (again)

Another fantastic story almost perfectly told!

Don’t let Dominic Thorburn’s mispronunciation of the words “corps and “mage” put you off this wonderful book. I love the story, and it is told brilliantly!

A vast improvement on the previous installation in both storytelling and pace. Would definitely recommend.

Magical adventure

If you could sum up The Inquisition in three words, what would they be?

Exciting unpredictable fantastic!

What did you like best about this story?

The close relationships with friend and demon alike!

What three words best describe Dominic Thorburn’s performance?

Consistent accentuated clear.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Fletcher and his adoptive father solidify their relationship.

Any additional comments?

I was disappointed that Dominic was unable to make his voice a little lighter and somewhat softer when reading a woman. If he can give a dwarf a ("Scottish") accent, then he should put a little lilt and creaminess to his voice when portraying a girl. I found it grating to hear Silver say something, and I wouldn't have known it was a girl unless it said, "said Silver" and I was ALWAYS surprised to learn it was her or another woman speaking.
