What can life’s final moments teach us about living well today?

In this bestselling memoir, palliative care nurse Hadley Vlahos recounts the unforgettable tales of the hospice patients whose journeys of self-discovery inspired her sense of purpose and hope. From the elderly man seeing visions of his late daughter, to the young patient lamenting the time wasted fearing judgment, to the woman whose unwavering belief in her faith was shaken up by the prospect of dying.

Each story teaches us to embrace life’s fleeting nature, and raises vital questions: How do we make peace with the end? How can we honour our late loved ones? And, above all, how can we make each day count?

Compassionate and thought-provoking, The In-Between is a celebration of life’s great unknowns, and a comfort as we navigate what comes next.

After caring for my Grandmother through her last days I can only thank you, for validating my experience. Although heartbreakingly honest all those moments leading upto and after losing someone you love, while navigating the exhaustion, guilt and red tape are very real. I actually thought I was going mad but through nearly every person I found a part of our story. It was raw, frustrating, full of love and sometimes humorous. Thank you for sharing such a large part of yourself, your family and thank you for all you do for your patients and their families.
I would recommend this book to anyone feeling alone in their grief, struggling with the prospect of losing someone or anyone curious or unsure of what may or may not come next

A wonderfully uplifting and equally heartbreaking book. Hadley is a beautiful soul and this book takes away the fear of death with so many of her patients experiences. Absolutely loved it.

Hadley provides a unique and moving view of hospice care through wonderfully told stories of her patience. The love Hadley has for her patients is evident in every word and their stories are beautifully told. I loved the last chapter where she thanked each of her patients for the lessons they taught her.

Moving and thought provoking
