Summary

Too many discipleship books are written for clean, perfect people who know all the right Sunday school answers. The Imperfect Disciple is for the rest of us - people who screw up, people who are weary, people who are wondering if it's safe to say what they're really thinking.

For the believer who is tired of quasi-spiritual lifehacks being passed off as true, down-and-dirty discipleship, here is a discipleship book that isn't afraid to be honest about the mess we call real life. With incisive wit, warm humor, and moving stories, Jared Wilson shows listeners how the gospel works in them and in their lives when:

  • They can't get their act together
  • They think God is giving them the silent treatment
  • They think church would be better without all the people
  • They're not happy with the person in the mirror
  • And much more

Wilson frees listeners from the self-doubt and even the misplaced self-confidence they may feel as they walk with Jesus down the often difficult road of life. The result is a faith that weathers storms, lifts burdens, and goes forth to make more imperfect disciples.

Nothing more to say really. Wasn't a great fan of Jared Wilson. That is all

A Must Read or Listen!

There are so many great things
about this book! I providentially
started listening to this book after experiencing a 'discipleship fail'.
This book contains THE PERFECT MESSAGE for anyone who needs encouragement when their walk
with God had gotten messy, are discouraged, depressed and full of despair. But you don't have to be 'down' to appreciate its wonderful hope-filled content. One can also start it when all is bright with not a cloud in the sky and be blessed by the practical wisdom, insight and tremendous encouragement of the author on the Christian life. I very highly recommend this book to every single Christian no matter where you are on your journey with God!
And the narrator is P-E-R-F-E-C-T!

A refreshing reaquaintance with the gospel.

No punches pulled and the Gospel presented in a way that speaks to the gritty sinful aloofness we all sink to as believers trying to attain a measure of our own righteousness with our worthless currency of effort.

Christ supplies all the righteousness we need and this book is an apt reminder of God's complete answer to our neediness.

Deep thoughts in an easily digestible format

I really enjoyed listening to this book. I was impressed by the depth of the theology and the accessibility of the writing. This is worth multiple listens/reads.

Encouragement for the Everyday Christian

Christian brother or sister, you are loved by the God of the universe. No matter what you do, you are loved. This is the theme of this short, but important book about what it means to be a disciple of Jesus. We don't need to be perfect, ever. We don't need to have it all together, ever. We just need to be repentant and seeking to follow the Lord in our day to day lives.

Consider giving this one a listen if you're feeling discouraged. God will use it to lift you up.

Thanks, Jared, for a lovely little bit of grace reminding.

A must read

I found it hard to stop listening as ever chapter had more insight in Christ and how we can deepen our relationship with him. As sin is so prominently displayed as acceptable in society it becomes increasingly difficult to resist temptations and follow Christ. For after all the point has and always will remain Christ.

Union with Christ

A wonderful message that should be read throughout the church! This book is so freeing and leads to rest! Instead of focusing mearly on our faithfulness to Christ Jared points us to focus on Christs faithfulness to us! This thinking leads to assurance and rest where the other often leads to disappointment and shame. The union of Christ doctrine is one of the most profound and sweet doctrines I’ve come to know and I’m thankful that Jared shows us this in “The Imperfect Disciple” I hope others will read this and rest in the finish work of Christ! Soli Deo Gloria!

God's Grace is Sufficient for EACH of US.

A very important perspective, that each Believer needs reminded of, and each Unbeliever needs to embrace!

you don't have your act together and that's ok

great book. I would highly recommend. I have struggled from the very outset of my conversion, to believe that Christ loves me and not just what I can do for Him, or my ability to get it all together. He loves me.
