About this listen

Deep underground, in a top-secret location, the war against terror, anarchy and foreigners in general is being waged. Inside The Hub, where intelligence gathering blends seamlessly with state-of-the-art, counter-terrorist hardware, dedicated professionals work day and night to keep us safe...and somehow always manage to totally screw things up. Health and Safety Officers insist on covert agents wearing hi-vis jackets, mad scientists invent edible time machines and the world is finally saved by a visiting postman.

24 meets Blackadder in this fast-paced, irreverent, madcap comedy, set in a world of secrets, shadows and utter stupidity.

Any additional comments?

I most definitely am not the market these comedies are written for but, having downloaded them, I feel obliged to comment. However, having said that, I can still appreciate the witty and clever writing skills of the authors.
Of the five, I preferred, Working For The Big Man, but I must be honest and say, were they produced as a full length book, I would not buy any of them.

Witty, Clever & Unusual

What disappointed you about The Hub?

It`s all been done before. The incompetent spies, the telegraphed misunderstandings and so on.
You could sing along with the plot.

What three words best describe the narrators’s performance?

Fairly well acted.

You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Not for me I'm afraid.

predictable

What did you like best about The Hub? What did you like least?

It had a traditionally British comedic feel and was well performed but really this is not a new concept or particularly freshly written. The plot was thin, unfunny and so predictable that it became irritating.

What will your next listen be?

A relisten to some quality radio comedy - anything by John Finnemore or possibly some Bleak Expectations.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

I wasnt involved in the plot enough to particularly focus on any scene.

Did The Hub inspire you to do anything?

Turn off and rediscover original and funny comedy.

Any additional comments?

I am a keen and longterm listener to radio comedy and it is possible that my bar has been set very high by writers such as John Finnemore - Cabin Pressure, Andy Hamilton - Old Harry's Game and Mark Evans - Bleak Expectations. All of these series had quality pilot episodes and didn't need to 'bed in' or develop and this is the quality Audible should be looking for

Unoriginal and Sadly Unfunny

Just Ok, I may listen to more tales from the hub, but only if they were less than the price of a credit or free.
It was obvious and not that great.

It was Ok.

Would you try another book written by Bruce Windwood or narrated by the narrators?

Not on this showing.

What was most disappointing about Bruce Windwood’s story?

It was straight from the book of not how to write a story about the secret services, the MOD and secret government departments.

How could the performance have been better?

They might have rehearsed.

Do you think The Hub needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No

Any additional comments?

I had hoped for better.

Clichéd and predictable
