Summary

The trap is set. Failure is not an option.

When government hit man Will Robie is given his next target he knows he’s about to embark on his toughest mission yet. He is tasked with killing one of their own, following evidence to suggest that fellow assassin Jessica Reel has been turned. She’s leaving a trail of death in her wake, including her handler.

The trap is set. To send a killer to catch a killer. But what happens when you can’t trust those who have access to the nation’s most secret intelligence?

Annoying sound effects at times

The additional music and sound effects are Superfluous as the writing is dramatic enough. Otherwise it is a good listen

Great Action Thriller

This is a good action book with a twist - the hero is a trained killer. The author has created a nice complex character and delivers a really good action thriller. I have read both the Will Robie books and enjoyed them both - fast action and clever. If you like Jack Reacher, John Puller, Jason Bourne then I think you will like Will Robie.

The use of two narrators (both really good) works very well.

Enjoyable

I can't say I was gripped by this story but it was a serviceable thriller. The two narrators dud an excellent job. Not sure about the strange sound effects popped in from time to time though!

A plot that follows a theme for Baldacci

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

If you like crime thrillers then David Baldacci doesn't disappoint. His books all vary around a theme, Robie and Reel are a variation on a theme to King and Maxwell. That doesn't detract from the plots which tend to be well thought out with several potential villains. If you like conspiracy plots with lots hung ho go get em action, this is for you.

Ron and Orlagh are great narrators, that add that extra dimension to the book.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Robie is the main stay of the books, comes across as a logical thinker but someone scared of getting involved to to the risk of emotional attachment. Expected to be a robot and follow orders, there is a side to Robie that shows a compassionate streak that he keeps well hidden.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

It's difficult to outline a scene you like without flagging a spoiler alert. The roof top assignation was interesting as this is where Baldacci exploited the emotional play that Robie clearly tries to suppress much to his own inner detriment.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

You can't help but get dragged into the plot and feeling compassion of one of the main characters. The storyline gripped me as there were many strings that eventually all come together. As it all comes to a climax the tension rises as you are routing for Robie to win.

Any additional comments?

If you like King and Maxwell you will more than likely enjoy Robie and Reel. I would recommend giving the first book in the series a go. You should read them in order as they make more sense that way and you get the relationship between the main players. You can pick any one up and read it, but that wouldn't be my choice.

fun thriller

fun and relatively fast paced. like the will Robie series as it's easy going and not too complex. performance is fine, little overdone with the SFX at times but its what you expect. The story is a little ridiculous at times but again, what do you expect from a US hitman series...
