About this listen

The second book in the epic Evermen Saga.

With the fate of their homeland still in jeopardy, siblings Ella and Miro must face the Primate’s evil as he discovers a new technique: a way to extract essence from human blood.

The Primate has been temporarily defeated, but his home was once inhabited by the Evermen, and their ancient secrets still remain there. As the mysterious Evrin sets out to destroy everything he can, the Primate stumbles upon an ancient book that tells of a hidden relic with unfathomable power - and he will stop at nothing to find it.

Realizing the solution to defeating the Primate and saving the Empire is tied to the hidden relic, Ella, Miro, Killian, and the desert prince Ilathor must race to reach the relic before the Primate…or suffer disastrous consequences.

As the title states, Hidden Relic is a great sequel to Enchantress. I think I actually preferred this a little more. This might be due to the fact that the slowness of the first book isn't as present now we know the characters and the world has been explained.

Hidden Relic shows you a whole new area of the world Maxwell has created and a brand new people to go with it. I found this book a heck of a lot less predictable than its predecessor and, for that, I found myself finding more hours of the day to put into it.

Simon Vance does a good job of narrating again in this book; his voice seeming to fit the story and characters perfectly. His emotional range is fantastic, hitting excitement, pain, sorrow and grief almost flawlessly.

Ella and Miro's tales continue off in their own direction and you genuinely get a feel for how big the world in which the story is set is.

A great sequel

Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.

We really get down and nasty in this book when the Primate starts to extract essence from human bodies. Meanwhile Ella has been kidnapped by a desert tribe. Predictably, the Prince, Llathor, falls for her.

War is coming and no-one is going to be able to escape. There will be losses, on both sides.

This is by no means a brilliant fantasy, but there is enough to keep you interested and it a very easy to listen to book. Simon Vance does a very good job as narrator, which always help.
