As a soon to be puppy owner, this book has greatly increased my knowledge and confidence. It has given me a solid understanding of what to expect, how to prepare, as well as some sensible objectives, start points and a structure to adhere to. This book also dispels some commonly held myths and wades into contentious issues such raw diets and to spay or not to spay, it treats these subjects in a balanced way. It does not try to be the be all and end all, but it does provide the basis for an excellent foundation.

As a first time dog owner-to-be, I thoroughly enjoyed this book introducing what is normal puppy and dog behaviour and the tips on looking after and training a young canine citizen. The author is UK-based, the narration is in British English and the structure of the book will delight readers used to UK writing traditions: each chapter is well structured, easy to follow and is concluded with an apt summary of the most important points discussed. I now feel I have a fairly good idea of what to expect once we bring our puppy home and I look forward to trying out the first few steps of training which have been explained here in detail. I'd recommend this book to all new dog owners as well as ones who want to refresh their knowledge.

Insightful beyond common sense

Spends a large proportion of the book banging on about vaccines. Ruined it for me

Is this about vaccines or puppies?
