About this listen

The no. 1 international bestselling author

Winner of the Glass Key Award

In the middle of a hard-won morning nap in the basement of police headquarters, Carl Mørck, head of Department Q, receives a call from a colleague working on the Danish island of Bornholm. Carl is dismissive at first, but then he receives some shocking news. Carl then has no choice but to lead Department Q into the tragic cold case of a vivacious seventeen-year-old girl who vanished from school, only to be found dead hanging high up in a tree.

The investigation will take them from the remote island of Bornholm to a hidden cult, where Carl and his assistants must stop a string of new murders by a skilled manipulator who refuses to let anything - or anyone - get in the way.

Perfect for fans of Mick Herron, Tim Weaver and Jo Nesbo.

i've avoided book 6 & 7 based on the narrator, but kept faith with story and the new (true) narrator and the whole series is back on track.steven pacey is the only karl.

It was a real delight to have Steven Pacey back to narrate this. He makes all the difference with this Department Q series. I also enjoyed this story as although, of course, it had tragic and violent elements it felt less extreme than other books in the series. I never underestimate the humour, it is needed, and this narrator pitches it perfectly. Yes, these books play on certain clichés but every character feels the sharp end of Adler Olsen's pen at some time, he doesn't discriminate! I particularly love Assad who seems a Middle Eastern Mr Bean crossed with James Bond. A brilliant character who carries so much on those square shoulders of his.

Excellent Narration of Story with Twists

A sublime crime thriller in my book that rates 10 stars.
I have many Yusi Adler Olsen books in my library, so I will be looking for the earlier books I have and re-listening.

Brilliant. I’d leave 10 star review if I could
