Summary

When poachers invade an idyllic Wyoming meadow to scout the perfect location to build a lucrative hunting lodge, the animals' lives are forever changed. Marred by the harrowing intrusion, the grieving society of woodland creatures must summon the courage to unite, predators and prey alike, to protect their majestic utopia from the rifle-toting men.

Set in the scenic Rocky Mountains, The Great Timbers is a spellbinding story about friendship, loss, dignity, loyalty and war. It is a poignant piece of literary animal fiction in the spirit of the Richard Adams' classic Watership Down, George Orwell's The Animal Farm, or Johnathan Durham's Winterset Hollow.

Full of heart, The Great Timbers is a captivating and timeless animal adventure in which the hunters have just become the hunted.

Emotional Animal Tale!

This book is so good yet so emotional. I love how the narrator and author brought these animal characters to life! I would highly recommend this book, but it does deal with animal death. That could be a trigger warning, but I still highly recommend!

A heart breaking story of vengeance! Highly recommended for fans of Watership Down.

This was such a heart breaking and harrowing read for me as its theme is so close to my heart! But it was so satisfying at the same time, and I really wish the events happening towards the end of this book were true anytime and everywhere. Whoever thinks that hunting is legitimate and even consider it a sport, is automatically deleted from existence in my mind and not worth of anything. Whoever thinks that another species' life is worth less than their own, so much so that it is justified to kill them for trophies, well I wish they don't cross my path ever...

This is a story of vengeance and partnership. It underlines the arrogance and hubris of humans over Nature and animals. It highlights the injustice of humans' self-proclamation as the most important being on Earth, acting without any consideration for any other species than their own.

Aside from that, it also focuses on animals' feelings and give them a voice that we human can understand. Often Nature speaks to us, but we've lost the ability, or we are unwilling to listen, dismissing Nature's sounds to just noise...

Although different, it reminded me of Watership Down, and if you loved it then you'll also love The Great Timbers and all the animals living there.

Thanks to Rusty Ogre Publishing for the opportunity to listen to it and this is my honest opinion.
