Summary

When Peggy McBride moves to Dare Valley, Colorado, the last thing she wants is to meet a man. If she's learned one thing from her divorce, it's that love is a messy business, and as a single mom and the new deputy sheriff, she has her hands full. But when hotel magnate and poker player Mac Maven moves to town, she becomes enthralled by the very last man she would ever consider dating...

Millionaire Mac Maven has come to Dare with ambitious plans for his new project, the restoration of The Grand Mountain Hotel as a boutique poker venue. Only one person offers him a less than warm welcome: Deputy Sheriff Peggy McBride, who is dead set against gambling. But although Peggy's a fierce opponent, Mac senses a tenderness and passion within her that he longs to free. Having helped his sister raise her teenage son, he understands Peggy, and can see past her tough-as-nails exterior.

When a threat to Mac's hotel surfaces, he and Peggy must join forces to find out who's responsible. Working together ignites the white-hot connection between them, and their cooperation takes a decidedly personal turn. But can Mac convince Peggy to set their differences aside and take a gamble on love?

Good story

Really good story had me laughing & crying. Predictable romance series you always know who is going to fall in love next but it keeps you hooked in because you want to know how it will happen.

wonderful series!

This is series you don't want to miss! If you like a story that sucks you in the first 5 minutes this it. I have listened to 4 of these and every character has a different personality with believable stories on how to mess things up and the pain to fix it back, laugh out loud, maybe shed a tear or two, go get a cup of coffee sit back and enjoy.

Enjoying the series ... engaging stories. Although the ending is a foregone conclusion, the journey is a lot of fun with laugh out loud and heartwarming moments.

The Grand Plop

struggled to finish. I loved the first two books in the series.
The storyline was not good. I didn't like how they made the character Peggy so mean and always referring to herself as I'm a cop and this is my town.

Okay

Definitely not on par with Robyn Carr or Nora Roberts, but ok for listening when really good character & story development isn’t a requirement. If you’re in your 60’s, 70’s or 80’s and healthy, active and mature but young in your thinking be prepared to be insulted. Evidently the author considers us all cane wielding, “curmudgeonly”, and health manipulative-even characters in their 50’s are portrayed as “older people” stereotypes. I gave the series a good try listening to the first three, hoping for development, but it remains at the ok level. The narrator does very well and makes for pleasant listening.

Peggy character

Just like the Jill character, the Peggy character was awful, self-centered, self-righteous, unreasonable, unkind, etc. these two characters are probably the worst part of the series. Other than that the story was nice.

Great book

Would you consider the audio edition of The Grand Opening to be better than the print version?

Both are good, depends on personal preference of the reader or listeners

Who was your favorite character and why?

I don’t know the characters blended well together

Have you listened to any of Em Eldridge’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I enjoy listening to her narratives, she has good inflections in her voice and her male and female voices were easy to tell whichever character was talking.

Any additional comments?

On the story I had four stars, only because I couldn’t get the fifth star to take. It’s definitely 5 stars for all categories.
