Summary

The crime doesn't always fit the punishment.

A life-and-death hostage situation at Barfield High Security prison brings Governor Helen Hewitt back to her old stomping ground. But things have changed at Barfield.

A new, highly dangerous prisoner poses a threat to the peace, and when discord boils over, the prisoners join forces in an audacious escape attempt. As violence erupts among the officers and the inmates, Hewitt must once again restore order. Before it's too late.

Based on the popular TV series starring Janet McTeer, the complete and unabridged Governor series is now available for the first time in audio.

Fabulous

I have just finished listening to the two audios of the Governor series by Lynda La Plante. I have long been a fan of her work and have quite a collection. So time ago I began to listen to her work on Audible. I have to say that I enjoyed them all over again.
Lately, I purchased The Governor and The Governor part 2; never, have I listened to two more thrilling, exciting, audibles. I thoroughly enjoyed them. I highly recommend them. I await eagerly for a part 3!

I hope there's a part 3!

so annoyed by the ending! if there's not a 3rs part I've wasted my time on both the first and this book.

Enjoyable - until the ending.

I enjoyed the book until it came to an abrupt end & it doesn’t look like there is a third in the series. Nothing worse than a book that seems unfinished from a readers point of view. I feel like I wasted my time listening to it for it to end like that.

Brilliant compelling prison drama

Absolutely loved this second book in the series, compelling a page turner so good to follow characters through in the storyline, I do hope there will be a 3rd book, narration was brilliant and added to the storyline

A good book ruined by the ending.

If there isn't to be a third book then this was a complete waste of time. The book ends before the story is completed and although I was enjoying the book, the ending ruins this and I'm left wondering why did I bother?

What's next?

I really enjoyed this story. It was full of action, life, and death. My only complaint was the last chapter. How did it go with The Mikado? How did it go with the governer at the end of the book? Is there going to be a "The Governor Part 3?"

Could have been better

The storyline was all over the place and ended on a cliffhanger. The first book was a lot better.

okay but not as good as the first governor story.

Lots of characters sometimes hard to follow. not one strong thread. Based on that not sure I'll read the 3rd governor.

I have to disagree with the negative reviews...

I actually liked this 2nd book. The 1st book was great to lay out the characters and to show how Helen evolved. Yet, the second book, you could see Helen actually implementing the "new" version of herself throughout. She was strong and no one stood in her way. Her only soft side in this book was she actually had a boyfriend! Which, didn't really fit her new work personality 😉 But was nice to see for her. I believe that many of the negative reviews and feelings are coming from the last minute of the book. It ended extremely abruptly & not at all like any of us would want for the characters 😪 (Which could easily make another book- but right now-there isn't one) But, just because every book doesn't have a happy ending...doesn't mean that the book wasn't good!!

Blah.

The story was engaging, but empty. The characters revived in this book seemed hollow or just off. For example, Victor Braithwaite seemed an odd choice to bring back, but his "new" attributes seemed contradictory to those in the first book. The ending was horrible. The only thing good about this book was the narrator. She was incredible and I'd listen to her read most anything.

Helen Hewitt returns to Barfield Prison

The first chapter is a grabber, and the tension never lessens. After the abrupt ending, I was disappointed that there was no sequel. Nevertheless, this is a fast-paced and enjoyable listen.

Very abrupt ending

Clearly there was meant to be a third book and tv series for The Governor. It’s the only way to explain the abrupt ending.
