The World Needs The Goodies!
The central idea of this very welcome return for the legendary comedy trio is that Britain is in such a state that the country needs The Goodies to run it and, having listened to 'The Big Ben Theory', I can confirm that Britain does indeed very much need The Goodies (and unfortunately also that Britain is in one heck of a state!).
It is so marvellous that, nearly forty years on from the last of their television exploits, Audible have retrieved The Goodies and their trandem from deep storage in the bowels of the former BBC Television Centre, blown the cobwebs off Bill, Tim and Graeme, oiled the bike's chains and brought our heroes back in audio form.
The result is a mix of all that there was to love and laugh about in The Goodies with an added soupçon of one of the trio's other successes, the radio sketch show I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again - and it's all highly entertaining, well written, superbly performed... and as well as The Goodies, there are also the vocal talents of Joanna Lumley, Phil Pope, John Culshaw, Kate Harbour and Barnaby Eaton-Jones to enjoy. And enjoy you will...
Britain needs The Goodies. The world could do with them, too!

Welcome Back
When this production was first announced I was concerned it would not work on audio. So much of The Goodies was visual humour but I am delighted to have been proven wrong.
It's a crackling script and a joyous listen that acknowleges the time passed between the end of the TV series and this story and also mixes contemporary issues into the plot.
Loved it and I hope we get more for the 50th anniversary next year.

The Goodies save Britain, and about time
Whilst Tim, Graeme and Bill haven't been away entirely from radio (OK, Bill has been AWOL for a while, in a gilly suit in a forest) the Goodies have not been seen for over 30 years and now... they're back and nothing has changed, except the wonderful Dirk Maggs is now at the helm as director. The Goodies should have been as big as Python, and I say that as a big Python fan. It can't be easy to write sketches and skits but to write with the same creativity and lunacy and also have to have a narrative which links everything logically and chronologically takes genius. That's why I think Python's best work is at the cinema. The Holy Grail and Brian show real discipline and controlled talent. The Goodies did this brilliantly for 67 episodes but then faded away into the great entertainment ether.(Damn you, Bill Cotton) For some unforgivable reason the series has never been repeated, even on Dave! But now here they are and they are still brilliant. Bill and Graeme share writing credit but you can still identify Graeme's puns. He should have an OBE for services to comedy - without Graeme on 'Clue' and other quiz shows, we wouldn't have Tim Vine, Milton Jones, etc. Bill still writes funny songs and Tim still wears his union jack waistcoat but the comedy feels fresh, alive and marvelously groan-able. As with all the best puns you wonder why no one thought of it before. If you remember the Goodies, get this and relive your youth. If you're too young to remember, don't worry, it isn't your fault. Get this and turn your 'silly' monitor up and laugh out loud. Thank you Audible for bringing back a classic, and this time it's really worth it.

Brilliant!!!!!
It is such a treat to hear The Goodies together again!!!! This production is brilliantly written, directed and acted and had me 'dangerously' laughing in my car all the way to work and back today!!! That comes from a Yank!!! This is just what this world and time needs right now. A way to laugh at ourselves and laugh hysterically!!!
The Goodies. Always brilliant. Always funny. 40+ years on and they still have it!!!

Great show!
Great show, so glad you did this before we lost Tim.
Never had the deserved recognition but always hilarious.
Brought back many happy childhood memories and was just as funny as remembered.

Outstanding
Attempts to return are often dangerous and doomed but this proves the opposite is possible. Light and fresh with some great reminders , for those of us of a certain age, what joy and belly laughs we enjoyed with "Black Pudding" , the "Beanstalk" and all the rest. More Please.

Stuff that Funky Gibbon, why don't you?!?
While my knowledge of Python's contemporaries in British comedy is rather limited, one name I knew of was the Goodies. Never caught an episode, although now I'm tempted to go hunt them down after hearing this. Absolute surrealistic play-on-word fast-paced fun. This is what Audible needs to be doing more if they're going down the comedy path. "They defeated Kitten Kong! They stuffed the Funky Gibbon! Can they save Parliament as well?" Apparently so, if only for one episode, with the tragic death of Tim Brooke-Taylor presumably putting an end to an ongoing Goodies series.
And I always knew that wiley Joanna Lumley was a Russian agent! Strewth!
