Summary

Welcome to Borley Rectory, the most haunted house in England.

It's 1926. Sarah Grey has a new job - assistant to Harry Price, London's most infamous ghost hunter. Harry has devoted his life to exposing the truth behind England's 'false hauntings', and never has he left a case unsolved.

They are invited to Borley Rectory - a house so haunted that objects fly through the air. But when night falls, they're forced to confront an uncomfortable possibility: the ghost of Borley Rectory may be real.

Unbearably boring

I managed to get about half way through before giving up because I was skipping whole chapters in an effort to get the story moving. In about eight hours of book there were maybe two hours worth of plot. The rest is just filler. It might have been okay if the characters were interesting but they're pretty two dimensional. I would definitely not recommended this.

Slow and ponderous

Took far too long to get going and the story didn't really feel like a ghost story but more of a English love story with the ghost story shoe horned in. Shame as it started well.

Fact and Fiction story of Borley Rectory

If you know the true story of Borley Rectory and or Harry Price then you will love this book as its well researched and written with many plot twists of fact and fiction intermingled.

If your just after a horror tale then you may find this heavy going; but as a reader of all the research material on Borley Rectory, I found this story utterly compelling and fascinating.

A wonderful story that pays tribute to the legend of Harry Price and to what was known as 'The Most Haunted House in England', - Borley Rectory.

Slow and very dull

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I dont want to hear about his secretary, her friends wedding, blah blah.

Has The Ghost Hunters put you off other books in this genre?

no

How did the narrator detract from the book?

yes her voice is extremely annoying

Great characters

It was a little slow but the characters are amusing and enjoyed the story.. Rather listen than read as not at all fast paced.. Worth a listen.

Not sure

I finished this title, but I'm not sure why. To be honest it was rather long-winded and boring, yet you somehow find yourself listening to it anyway. The narration was good, bother narrators have pleasant voices and are clearly spoken. Really can't say I would recommend this title as it left me feeling rather unimpressed.

Fantastic

Absolutely brilliant, I've listened to this book numerous times now and it entertains me every time. it's not 100% true to life but the other does use real evidence and happenings in places.

Highly recommended

Beautifully told. A little slow at the end.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I thought that the story was very cleverly framed, loved how the author wove in so many historical facts, and enjoyed both of the narrators. Towards the end of the book, I felt that the story dragged a bit, but overall a enjoyable listen.

60% fiction, 30% fact, 10% mystery

A good fictional ghost story woven around real events and sprinkled with genuine mystery through the reality of the actual proceedings. Borley rectory itself is the blueprint for many fictional tales, the beauty of this house is, IT EXISTED. Well performed by both readers and a pace sufficient to keep me engaged. Will consider another Spring book!
