The Frontier brings twenty-eight contemporary Ukrainian poets into English, each poem printed alongside its Ukrainian original.
The roster spans generations: Serhiy Zhadan, Halyna Kruk, Ostap Slyvynsky and Vasyl Holoborodko, the Nobel-nominated poet who spent two decades unable to publish, appear beside younger writers such as Lyuba Yakimchuk, Julia Musakovska and Myroslav Laiuk, whose work is already widely translated across Europe.
What connects them is a poetry that responds to national pressure by rebuilding its own tools, questioning technique and language itself. Edited and translated by Anatoly Kudryavitsky, poet, haiku master and editor of SurVision, this 414-page anthology is among the fullest introductions to contemporary Ukrainian poetry available in English.
"Kudryavitsky's fine translations do poetic justice to these texts." – Svitlana Krys, Slavic & East European Journal
