Summary

A spellbinding novel about marriage, passion, loss, renewal and the healing power of love from the number-one best-selling author of Songs of Love and War.

Married couple, Miranda and David, move out of London into a beautiful country house with an idyllic garden. But reality turns out to be very different from their bucolic dream. Soon the latent unhappiness in the family begins to come to the surface, isolating each family member in a bubble of resentment and loneliness.

Then a mysterious Frenchman arrives on their doorstep. With the wisdom of nature, he slowly begins to heal the past and the present. But who is he? When Miranda discovers his secret in the cottage by the garden, the whole family learns that a garden, like love itself, can restore the human spirit, not just season after season, but generation after generation.

Wise and winsome, poignant and powerfully moving, The French Gardener combines the savvy of contemporary women's fiction with an old fashioned sensibility steeped in the importance of family and the magical power of love.

Great story, irritating accents

I always love Santa Montefiore's stories and this one was no exception. However I could not get past the narrator's terrible French accent which sounded more Spanish than anything. This audible should be renamed "The Foreign Gardener" as there was certainly no french to be heard in his or his parents' accents.

A realistic love story beautifully written

Able to get a real sense of the characters and place.

A lovely, easy read that made me want the idyllic countryside life that Ava truly lived and loved.

A beautiful endearing story

Moving story, lighthearted at times and deeper at others- I assume this particular authors style, but overall a beautiful tale with perfect narration.

A slow burner but became delightful!

She does it again! This book started slower for me than her other books. However, i soon became gripped by the love affair! If you are a keen gardener you will especially love this book with its all details, scents and beauty- I literally wanted to transport myself there and of course into the arms of Jean Paul!

Thoroughly enjoyed

Santa Montefiore does it again, another great listen! Loved it. Preferred the historical storyline to the modern one as wasn’t really keen on Miranda and David and their annoying children, especially Gus. However it combined well with the historical story and was all just lovely to listen to. The ending was not what I expected however which was a shame to me but others might feel differently. Can’t wait to read the rest by this author, I have almost read them all now. 😄

Fragrance of Love

I could picture the beautiful garden & the way it grew & developed as the story unfolded. There is no rainbow without rain & this fragrant story of love & loss was excellent. A refreshing & wonderfully crafted love story.

Another gripping book!

I thought after listening to The Beekeepers Daughter I would struggle to enjoy another book but I loved this one just as much. I couldn't wait to hear more. Again the narrator was fantastic.

Beautiful

Made cry at the end. Everyone of her books is full of sadness and happiness. Couldn’t stop listening and was sad when it ended
