Summary

A spellbinding novel about marriage, passion, loss, renewal and the healing power of love from the number-one best-selling author of Songs of Love and War.

Married couple, Miranda and David, move out of London into a beautiful country house with an idyllic garden. But reality turns out to be very different from their bucolic dream. Soon the latent unhappiness in the family begins to come to the surface, isolating each family member in a bubble of resentment and loneliness.

Then a mysterious Frenchman arrives on their doorstep. With the wisdom of nature, he slowly begins to heal the past and the present. But who is he? When Miranda discovers his secret in the cottage by the garden, the whole family learns that a garden, like love itself, can restore the human spirit, not just season after season, but generation after generation.

Wise and winsome, poignant and powerfully moving, The French Gardener combines the savvy of contemporary women's fiction with an old fashioned sensibility steeped in the importance of family and the magical power of love.

Saccharin sweet.

Good for very light distraction. But too much like a children's book in the way it was written.

Fragrance of Love

I could picture the beautiful garden & the way it grew & developed as the story unfolded. There is no rainbow without rain & this fragrant story of love & loss was excellent. A refreshing & wonderfully crafted love story.

Brilliant...Brilliant...Brilliant !!

I write with euphoric tears running down my happy cheeks.
A wonderfully beautiful story of love, heartache, upset, transformation and enchantment.
I can really picture Hartington House and especially the garden as it has been very well written. I would so love to meet Jean-Paul. An excellent book. I've only recently discovered Santa Montefiore but with each book I read, I find myself wanting more.Read it and enjoy.

A very touching story…

Enthralled by the story which was enhanced by the narration.

Didn’t want it to end.Felt as though I was there with the characters and in the lovely settings.

Will look for other books by Santa Montefiore.

Thoroughly enjoyed

Santa Montefiore does it again, another great listen! Loved it. Preferred the historical storyline to the modern one as wasn’t really keen on Miranda and David and their annoying children, especially Gus. However it combined well with the historical story and was all just lovely to listen to. The ending was not what I expected however which was a shame to me but others might feel differently. Can’t wait to read the rest by this author, I have almost read them all now. 😄

Another gripping book!

I thought after listening to The Beekeepers Daughter I would struggle to enjoy another book but I loved this one just as much. I couldn't wait to hear more. Again the narrator was fantastic.

Great story

One of her best stories. Only criticism is the chapter numbers are way out of whack.
