Bonbon Palace was once a stately apartment block in Istanbul. Now it is a sadly dilapidated home to ten wildly different individuals and their families.

There's a womanising, hard-drinking academic with a penchant for philosophy; a 'clean freak' and her lice-ridden daughter; a lapsed Jew in search of true love; and a charmingly naïve mistress whose shadowy past lurks in the building. When the rubbish at Bonbon Palace is stolen, a mysterious sequence of events unfold that result in a soul-searching quest for truth.

By turns comic and tragic, The Flea Palace is an outstandingly original story driven by a powerful sense of social justice.

I have loved Elif Shafaks books before and read a few based on other books. Not sure I understand the point of this book. I felt like a narrative of people’s lives with little connection or conclusion.

Unique style

Very interesting listen. I’ve listened to all the writer’s books and they’re all brilliant!
I’ve been looking forward to a 2026 release and I wasn’t disappointed!
I liked all the characters.

Great narrator

The book seemed to improve as it went on. The structure of the chspters worked very well and the ending chapters were wonderful.

The ingenious writing.

I have enjoyed this authors previous books and was looking forward to another of her usual clever and moving stories. I kept on hoping to find the magic i experienced before when listening to her previous work but this was without charm or distinction. Listened in vain and gave up before the end. A book of characters who might make a novel in a new story but lacked substance.

Disappointing
