About this listen

When Rob decides the family needs to get away for the summer Jess is not convinced—won't all the things they're escaping be waiting for them on their return? But the kids are thrilled, and before long their idyllic little cottage, the sea air, and the feel of skin sticky from sun-cream, lollies and sand, begins to work its magic.

Jess allows herself to sink into the holiday vibes—the family even make holiday friends. As the summer heat intensifies Jess—ever vigilant—unearths a secret—a problem she's sure she can help solve. But things are not always as they seem. The water may look inviting but even the gentlest looking waves can hide the deadliest undercurrents.

This summer Jess is determined to fix things where she's failed before, but life is rarely that simple. This holiday is going to end in a way she could never have imagined...

I really enjoyed this book, kept me gripped until the end! The narrator projected the characters well, and I found myself sitting in the car waiting for the chapter to end once I got to my destination when listening in the car!

A great read!

I had loved A Good Enough Mother and I really enjoyed this title, too. I will keep an eye out for any other books by this writer.

Very enjoyable

A really enjoyable read.Gripping in parts.I really felt as though the narrator projected the character of Jess...her stresses and strains.
I've only given it 4 because I enjoyed A good enough mother slightly more but still found this an excellent book.

Kept my interest to the end

I loved this book, I felt it spoke to me on many levels. So insightful and beautifully written. Wonderfully narrated too. Highly recommend!

Amazing book

Tedious and relentlessly melodramatic. I really couldn’t stand it. Jess is a pain in the proverbial. The first person present tense serves to emphasise her intense self-indulgent internal monologue. Aaargh. Didn’t like the narration either.

Too much
