'A magnificent writer' KARIN SLAUGHTER

A murdered woman. A missing child. And a father intent on revenge.

On a cold day in Reykjavik, a baby goes missing from her pram. When the child's blanket washes up on the beach, and the mother is found dead, everyone's worst fears seem to have been realised.

Eleven years later, and detective Huldar and child psychologist Freyja are now working in the same police building, on the same team. Freyja believes that personal and professional relationships must remain separate, however hard that may be. But when a woman's dismembered body is found in a deserted car, her head missing, and Freyja and Huldar find themselves working on the same case, the secrecy around their affair threatens to crack. And when Freyja is accused of a serious breach of police protocol, will Huldar be able to help her? Meanwhile, their search to identify the body takes the case back into secrets of the past, and the unspoken crimes that bind three separate families.

Another great story, only disappointed the accents were portrayed in anything but Icelandic. My enjoyment would have been enhanced by using an actor with an accent that matched the setting.

Great story, wrong dialect.

I really enjoy Yrsa. This time I got completely lost on who was who in the plot.I kept having to go back and listen.

Forgetful fallout

The whole series is fantastic, and you really get wrapped up in the characters. But really, there is so much left unfinished. Reading between the lines, (and an interview), Yrsa Sigurdardottir simply gets bored with her various series. Or sees no room to continue them. That's fair enough. However, that makes wrapping things up more important. And it's not even one of those "deliberately left things not finished" scenarios. It really is just randomly leaving a series, during writing it.

As such, you never know what happens to either the main two protagonists, or to the brilliant police chief (after giving birth to Freya's brother's child).

Still a fantastic series, which is wholly worth the time (and credits). But definitely left too much not completed.

Excellent but Unfinished

Absolutely excellent finale to the children’s house series. Gripping until the very end. A most satisfying story.

Fantastic twists and turns

Hopelessly complex and quite confusing . I am a huge fan of this author having read all her other books. After reading this one, I think it is probably time to finish with the unlikely partnership between Huldar and Freya. The story is far fetched although the characterisation is as good as ever.i think I prefer the stand alone novels some of which are superb.

Disappointing this time.
