About this listen

Fred awoke to find that a snake was watching him and that there was an aeroplane in the trees. It was on fire. Being on fire was a quality it shared with much of the surrounding jungle.

After crashing hundreds of miles from civilisation in the Amazon rainforest, Fred, Con, Lila and Max are utterly alone and in grave danger. They have no food, no water and no chance of being rescued. But they are alive, and they have hope.

As they negotiate the wild jungle, they begin to find signs that something - someone - has been there before them. Could there possibly be a way out after all?

This is a wonderful book, performed brilliantly. We bought it to listen in the car as a family (kids are 10 and 8). We are all heart-in-the-mouth gripped. Cannot recommend highly enough.

We were glued to every second

My Year 6 class read it while studying rainforests. It was an absolutely perfect story

A great read

This was meant to be for my 8 year old son, but it was so incredible I have listened to it on my headphones myself. The story is a beautifully written tail of four children who crash land in the Amazon. It's about their survival and they're eventual escape. The narrator is ... I can't really describe how well he tells the tail. He is able to carve out clear voices for each of the characters without it being over the top.

This is now one of my most memorable and favourite story/ audio book of all time. I loved it. I have started reading Katherine's The Wolf Wilder on the strength of this story, and it is incredibly promising. I am grateful that I have discovered such a profoundly talented storyteller. Thank you.

Sublime, entrancing, & beautiful.

Well-written and well-read; this is a different kind of adventure story. Four young explorers find themselves 'alone' in the depths of the Amazon, very different to one another.

A different kind of adventure story.

I have listen to the book on audible before and this is about the 100th time!! I have an international book club and this is the book we are doin. I adore the book and find it hard to believe that some of the awful things the explorer says in this book is true I myself am doin as much as I can to help the rainforest. I would recommend 6 or 7 up to read so that they can understand it and what is true in it.
