A family at war with itself is under threat in this glossy page-turner that keeps both police and readers guessing to the final pages. Denzil Meyrick moves the intrigue from Glasgow to London, Switzerland and the delights of rural Perthshire with consummate ease.

Most relevant

A rather disappointing standalone (so far) from Denzil Meyrick that’s saved in by the ever-brilliant and highly listenable David Monteath. This is an attempt at a modern-day country house mystery, populated by faded Scottish aristocrats and new-money moguls. Unfortunately, none of them is in the least sympathetic or even interesting. The lead detective is little more than a rough sketch of a person who ultimately added little to the plot. There are a series of twists towards the end, none of which is in the least bit surprising. This is the second dud in a row from the previously reliable Meyrick. Hoping for a return to form soon.
