The setting is 1950s London, at the height of the Cold War. Kit Fournier is ostensibly a senior diplomat at the US embassy in Grosvenor Square, but is actually CIA bureau chief in London. Clever convoluted plot. Some is guessable but later found to have another layer. Very well worth listening to.

Interesting and engaging until the end, when it became almost silly. It’s as if the author wrote 4/5ths of the book, couldn’t think of an ending and put it in a drawer for two years before returning to finish it without reading a word of what he’d written previously. Still, well written and (mostly) atmospheric.

The story was okay. Still not quite sure what was motivating the main character. Overall it was okay and probably raised a little by the quality of the narrator.

A well written insight into the machinations of the US secret service and its personnel as it operated in London during the years of the UK attempt to develop its own nuclear defence system, the Buster Crabbe affair and the lead up to the attack on Egypt known as the Suez crisis.

John Le Carre fans will enjoy this.

Wonderful book, well narrated. I enjoyed it so much I listened to it in one day and I’ve just bought 3 more by Edward Wilson with Richard Attlee narrating them. I hope The Catesby series is as good. 5 stars from me and I thoroughly recommend it
