Insightful

Loved reading about the different personality types and interconnections. Difficult in some ways to grasp the concepts but helped by much helpful detail. The Christmas sermon is a beautiful synopsis to read. I found it helpful as a possible number 2 to swallow my pride! 🙂

Why?

I love Richard Rohr’s writings and his conversational style of teaching. Unfortunately the narrator completely destroys any hopes of actually paying attention to this book. Why deliberately pick someone who does not even come close to Richard’s delivery style?

A book that helps me understand the enneagram

I have read several books on the enneagram. This one helped me understand it. It showed the 9 personality types are connected and although we have dominant traits ultimately it’s they enneagram as a whole that influence our lives in personal and spiritual ways.

interesting content if you can tolerate the politi

I enjoyed the process of learning about the enneagram BUT it was tiring having to listen to the authors venerate Marxism, Communism, Environmentalism etc while painting capitalists, political conservatives and Americans as evil and something from which we must turn away.

interesting psychological model

This work warps the people and motives in the Bible to fit the model. I think the title should say Christian Universalist apply a world view to the Enneagram to validate an intellectual understanding of finding god.

Know Thy Self

True freedom is found in knowing your true identity as God created you. Understanding your Enneagram will help you to do just that.

Not truly a Christian view

This is more like an enneagram book written with an eye cast toward Christianity. But it’s not an enneagram book written from a Christian perspective. For instance, and I could give more examples, but I’ll limit myself to two: I was disappointed when the spiritual exercise that was recommended for one type was zen meditation. Really? Zen meditation? I’m not not criticizing zen, But that’s certainly not a Christian practice, it’s Buddhist. One would think that two Christian clergy men could at least come up with a Christian form of prayer or other spiritual exercise that is historically Christian in a book that is supposed to be offering a uniquely Christian perspective of the enneagram.
Another example is that Saul Alenski is held up as a noteworthy example of Type (8?). Alenski was so far from being a Christian that he actually dedicated his book “rules for radicals” to none other than Lucifer himself! Could two Christian clergy men really do no better than to offer a practical satanist as an example to emulate in a supposedly Christian book? There’s plenty more of that sort of thing here.
That said, it’s not an all together bad book. There is some useful info here. Not a complete waist of time. But it could have been so much better.

This was very interesting to read and made you take a deeper look at yourself, your relationships, your connection with God... I would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting to better themselves spiritually and emotionally.

From Texas

As a Christian insightful yet I could hear the "New Age" rhetoric. Everyone has their own walk with Christ; the author's journey just did not meet with my pathway. God Speed.
