Summary

If you knew a book was cursed, would you read it?

When Ariel Manto uncovers a copy of The End of Mr. Y in a secondhand bookshop, she can't believe her eyes. She knows enough about its author, the outlandish Victorian scientist Thomas Lumas, to know that copies are exceedingly rare. And, some say, cursed.

With Mr. Y under her arm, Ariel finds herself thrust into a thrilling adventure of love, sex, death and time travel.

My absolute favourite book- terrible narrator

This is my favourite book. I could read and enjoy it once a year, however I can’t listen to this audiobook as the narrators voice grates. She is monotone and doesn’t convey anything. It really ruins it.

wow, the depth of philosophical thinking is awsome

I listened to this book randomly, never having heard of the author. it is amazing. one of the many things I love about scifi, which this is very subtally, is the freedom it gives the author to explore mind experiments and philosophical concepts. making them accessible and understandable to everyone.

I have been introduced to new philosophers who I have never heard of and will be looking up.
and I clcertainly will be exploring more of this ladies work

amazing, awsome and profound. with humour and romance combined.

A great performance (spoiler free review)

This a gripping book but quite complex. The performance really helps bring the thoughts of the characters alive [no spoilers!]

brilliant

I knew I enjoyed this book having read it previously, so I'd like to use this review to commend Kristin Atherton on a brilliant performance. I loved every second.

Great character speakers

Enjoyable read with a twisting compelling story line. Well read and great voices for use of different characters.

twists and turns of the mind

I don't like the main character because she is unnecessary debased. But I do understand that the person has to be very human and a little flawed for the story. other than that this is an awesome explore into the thinking and courses of our development of thinking. I like the questions it asks and the mix of the theory with science and religious studies. Excellent

Terrible Narrative

I read this book in 2018, Its a story that stays with you weeks after finishing it. I loved it so much I decided to purchase on Audible. A mistake, as the narrator can not verbally differentiate between characters voice tones, its read in a rushed way.
The story is filled with magical, velvety secrets, dry humour, yet this narrator misses all of these cues. My advice would be to purchase the actual book and read it yourself. You won't regret it. I purchased mine from a charity book store.

A masterpiece for all thinkers

I’ve owned and loved this book for over a decade. So happy to find it on Audible.
Like any lived novel, the movie will never match the vision of the reader. Neither can an audio book as paper lets you absorb and imagine at your own pace. Having said that; this audio version is very well read. Wish it were abridged slightly though so I could gift it to my teenage granddaughter- it’s a bit raw and explicit for younger listeners 👍
