This was one of the most clear and inspirational books I've read so far. Listening to Marta's voice filled my heart with more than just inspirational thoughts. I saw myself in her journey in several ways and felt love, compassion and empathy for all her accomplishments and bravery. We tend to believe that our journey is harder that the next person when in fact we all have within us the power to change our current state of being.

I listened to the audiobook edition of The Empowered Woman by Marta Spirk. It is a fairly short book at just one and a half hours long, however Spirk packs in a lot of information, guidance and sheer enthusiasm. I appreciated this opportunity to spend time with her especially as, with my headphones on and Spirk narrating her own words, it really did feel as though she were speaking directly to me.

The book is an inspirational blend of personal anecdotes and motivation that focuses on the individual truly getting to know their personality, then honestly evaluating their strengths and their weaknesses. Spirk utilises the enneagram test to determine personality type, directing readers to a website where we can take this test ourselves which, having not previously heard of it, I found really interesting to do. It's somewhat scarily insightful!

Although Spirk's ultimate focus is on helping entrepreneurial women to succeed in their own businesses, as a non-entrepreneur I still found a lot of useful takeaways from her advice for myself. I would say this is a book that can be revisited multiple times as its readers progress along the path Spirk has devised. The personal learning and development is intended as a life journey rather than a quick fix. Her energy and delight in helping other women comes across brilliantly well through the audiobook so I thought, even without the valuable advice, just listening to The Empowered Woman was a great pick-me-up.
