Story
When DS Royston Chase is called to the scene of a fatal road collision, his task is to identify the girl who died alongside the ex-chief constable of Wiltshire Police. Paired with the bold and strident DC Claire Laney, Chase is given the task of closing the case quickly and quietly. But when the girl’s DNA provides a familial link to a child who vanished from her home 20 years earlier, Chase and Laney refuse to accept the coincidence. The pair start looking harder at the ex-cop’s life, at which point they encounter serious opposition. Perhaps deadly serious.

The day my path crossed with Simon Fox I thought I’d already lost everything, but then he almost ran me off the road with his flash car and belittling jibes. The men in my life had undermined me for too long. Enough was enough. Fuelled by alcohol and the desire to get even, I decided a spot of petty vandalism would make me feel a whole lot better. Wrong. Very wrong. I hadn’t realised that Simon Fox was not a man to be messed with.

Summary
An incredible new thriller from an exciting new talent!
The murders have begun....
Across England, a string of murders is taking place. Each different in method, but each horrifying and brutal.
But the killer is just getting started....
Jess Ambrose is plunged into the investigation when her house is set ablaze. With her husband dead and the police pointing at her, she runs. Her only hope is disgraced detective Nate Griffin, who is convinced Jess is innocent.
And he’s going to shock the world....
Soon, Jess and Griffin discover the unthinkable: this murderer is copying the world’s most notorious serial killers. And now, imitation isn’t enough. The killer dubbed the Echo Man is ready to create his own masterpiece, and it will be more terrifying than anything that has come before....
Critic reviews
"Echoes of Lisa Gardner, Jeffery Deaver, Stuart MacBride—The Echo Man evokes that same classic, satisfying, red-blooded fear. But Sam Holland’s stellar debut is very much its own beast, wily and brawny and dangerous: a lethal new predator in an alluringly old-school skin." (A. J. Finn, author of The Woman in the Window)
"Sam Holland has created one of the most disturbing, shocking serial killers in recent memory. Superbly plotted with compelling protagonists, it's dark, twisted and utterly brilliant." (M.W. Craven, author of The Puppet Show)
"I loved this book and absolutely devoured it. So dark—and the author clearly knows their stuff about serial killers! Not for the faint hearted—brilliant." (Catherine Cooper, author of The Chalet)

Extremely graphic
This serial killer police procedural was extremely graphic in terms of violence. Almost too the point of wondering how far the author was going to go.
I sort of felt that it was went too far in terms of incredulity though still an exciting read, Readers of a sensitive disposition might want to check trigger warnings as it’s very intense

FELL A BIT FLAT FOR ME
I'm not a fan of the 'person is accused of murder but goes on to solve the crime themselves whilst managing to stay on the run!' Trope. I find books like this very unrealistic and unrelatable so when I realised that this was the direction this book was going, I was so disappointed.
The first 2/3 of the book annoyed me as Jess and a disgraced cop set about solving the crimes but I have to say that the 3rd section was much better.
I would rate this book 3🌟 because it was a good premise and definitely one I could listen to from start to finish but the 'I'll solve this myself' aspect of it really let it down for me.

Brutal but never dull
You need a strong stomach for this story especially if you have an avid imagination. Regardless, I had to continue listening because, despite the violence and gore, I wanted to discover the identity of the killer(s) and the story held me fast. Not going to read again but if you like such tales, then Mr Holland is a good writer, the novel is well read and it's not a bad way to while away almost 12 hours. Good luck!

Well I loved it
I loved the story, I loved the narration, of both male and female narrators, and finished the book the same day I started it. I rather thought the plot to be pretty creative and I don't remember thinking, at any point, how far fetched any of it was, I've always found fact to be stranger than fiction, just consider the last three or four years for instance (I write this in May 22).

Terrible female narrator has to stop listening
I’m really disappointed. The book itself seemed really promising but the female narrator is unbearable and I’ve had to stop listening. On reflection I’ve sent a book back in the past with the same actor narrating for the same reason. Why on earth are they using her. Overly dramatic and yet she reads each of the female characters in exactly the same way with no change in energy which made the book hard to follow. Every word she says is clipped and intense. It was like nails on a blackboard. I won’t get a refund for this but I couldn’t finish it all the same. I’ll be avoiding her like the plague in future. The male narrator was much better but had far less air time up to the point I threw the towel in.

TERRIBLE!
Worse book I've ever listened to! From the offset the two main women characters, Jess and Cara, are intensely unlikeable, you just don't care what happens to them. Cara, the police officer in charge, is incompetent. The gratituitas descriptions so unnecessary, makes you wonder what sort of person could even write like this. Lee Child, Mark Greaney and David Baldacci have sold millions of books without resorting to this. I found myself having to move these long, drawn out descriptions along without listenening to them. All the officers plus most characters in this book don't seem to know what a consonant is as they don't use them. Couldn't wait for this to end, kept hoping it would get better but it never does. Will never read anything by this writer again.
