About this listen

My name is Hanna. I am 15. I am Latvian. I live with my mother and grandmother. My father is missing, taken by the Russians. I have a boyfriend, and I'm training to be a dancer.

But none of that is important any more. Because the Nazis have arrived, and I am a Jew. And as far as they are concerned, that is all that matters. This is my story.

I chose this book to listen to because I liked the Anne Frank stories. It didn’t disappoint. I couldn’t stop listening. I engaged with the main character immediately. Loved it. Highly recommended.

Started listening, couldn’t stop.

it brings home the real brutality and sheer heartache and sense of hopelessness the Poor's Jews went through at the hands of the Nazis. They kept their faith which after everything else so dear to them was taken it was mostly all they had to cling to. I simply couldn't stop listening. it's excellently narrated which really helps.

The fictional account of the murder of the Jews in Riga, Latvia by the Nazis and their Latvian collaborators from 1941-4.
Historical detail (but with superfluous and highly improbable teenage love story).
Narrator irritating at times as does not know Yiddish or Hebrew.
Why read it? Because it is a rare accesable account of this terrible time and place. It is worth putting up with the recording's drawbacks in order to hear he story.

Harrowing but compelling

I am in my 50’s and ashamed to say I have never read a book about the holocaust.
This was very well written and the narration was very good. I’m not sure about the age suitability, there are some very harrowing parts so if your child is sensitive then I’d read this first. I was sobbing at some parts!

A book that will stay with me forever

and compelling to listen to even though it is fiction. I highly recommend this book. The narrator was very good.
