Summary

A 2015 Virginia Romance Writers HOLT Award of Merit recipient for outstanding literary fiction in the Romance Novella category.

Victorian Era England...

As far as rash decisions go, it was formidable. But Lady Jocelyn Rathbourne's will remains strong. If the only way to save her family's estate and reputation is by aiming a small pistol at the Duke of Calydon, then so be it. For Lady Jocelyn demands satisfaction - and she will have it at any cost. Even if it means demanding the hand of the intense and foreboding Duke himself....

But she's made the first move against a very dangerous opponent....

For Sebastian Thornton is no stripling to be trifled with. The lady has played her hand. Now it's his turn. For Sebastian is in need of a wife. And to find a wife with spirit and fire - even if she means to only marry for his money - would be a great prize indeed. And he intends to thoroughly take his pleasure with her... and demands his own satisfaction in return.

loved the story but not the narration

Loved the story. Stacy Reid's stories are always so lovely but this was ruined with the narrator, especially the hero's voice, it was awful. will not be continuing this series because of the narrator. Change the narrator to a much better one and I'll definitely buy the whole series as I love Stacy Reid's books.

Short in length, huge in entertainment!

What a lot of book in such a short tale. I wanted MORE! Set near the end of the 19th century and full of all the things we love about romance in that time.

Excellent performance, very hot, and worth the money. But it costs less than a credit!!!!

Good short story

I generally always like Stacy Reid's lounger stories and thought I would give this short one a try.

It was overall good, but with shorter stories, it was rushed. While I like my books to be over 200 pages, this one, even though it was under the 200 page mark was actually pretty good. While I do believe it would have been better if it were longer, the story flowed and the rushed feeling I receive when reading short stories wasn't as much as it had been with other shorter books.

I would recommend this book for a quick read that introduces you to the Duke's family. The other stories are longer, more evenly paced, and are a solid 5🌟. Since I felt this was a little rushed, it earned 4🌟.

Short and Sweet

I wanted a short audible for my work jaunt. This one fit the bill. Great start, and entertaining until the end. It's nothing deep, but wasn't looking for that. I'd recommend it.

Started off great

But then like…there was no plot? Kept waiting for something to happen, nothing did. Lmao—I guess a cute love story, BUT like 2 seconds of conflict and resolve. Love Stacy Reid, but the longer books are the way to go. I legit laughed when it ended and said “That’s it?”

Narrator

If the narrator didn't sound like a child when she speaks as the "woman" and like a person with a stuffy nose when she speaks as a man the narration would be acceptable. BUT sadly she is the worse narrator to ever read for this audio company. The story is good but I can't get into it because of the narrator. Miss Naples narrators at least one other Stacy Reid books that I've made the mistake in buying before I listened to the sample she ruined this book for me too. how can you imagine a passionate scene when it sounds like a child is having sex.

Embarrassed to have bought this.

This book was bad on so many levels I don’t know where to start. The terrible narrator who sounds like a fussy old hag? The cardboard characters who are inconsistent from one scene to the next? The sloppily conceived plot? The short length that was in no way worth $10? Learn from my mistake and don’t bother.

Horrible Narrator

I am so angry because I used a credit on this. The narrator was so horrible I couldn't get past the first chapter.

Saucy, sexy and swift regency novella

Bumped the speed to 1.3x and once I got over the childish, almost Moaning Myrtle voice for Jocelyn, I enjoyed this feisty regency novella. In 2.5 hrs, there’s just enough plot, pluck, and Fx to enjoy. The two sex scenes are pretty typical for regency, but steamy enough to match scarred, scowling Sebastian and his daring, Derringer toting Duchess. Borrowed this for free in the final month of Audible Escapes... but might be willing to purchase on sale.
