Summary

The gritty new thriller from the Queen of Crime Drama and the fifth book in the Sunday Times best-selling Jane Tennison series.

Jane Tennison has worked hard to become the first female detective ever posted to the infamous Flying Squad, or 'the Sweeney'. But the Dirty Dozen is a notorious boys' club, and Jane's new colleagues make it clear that they don't think a woman is up to the dangers of the job.

Dealing with some of London's most ruthless armed criminals, who think the only good cop is a dead cop, is no joke. Determined to prove she's as good as the men, Jane discovers from a reliable witness that a gang is going to carry out a massive robbery.

But she doesn't know who they are, or where and when they will strike....

Good story, poor narration

Probably the worst narration I’ve come across, sadly. The emphasis was all wrong, dramatic pauses in the middle of sentences & fairly rubbish accents. Glad I stuck with it to the end though, as I enjoyed the story.

Such a great listen x

I really enjoyed this story.
The narration was superb, despite what other listeners have said I think Laura did a great job, I wouldn't be able to do it so thank you Laura for bringing this book to life.
Well done Linda x
Jane Tennison has become one of me mates I love how she has a no bullshit type of attitude and just shows that a woman can do a man's job in the flying squad x

Narration let this book down

It took a while to get into as the narration was terrible. The narration was hammy and childlike.

Weak accents by reader

Well read but very dodgy accents. Also includes misreading of abbreviations such as OBO. Both these were distracting from what was overall a good listen.

Awful narration

I am sure that the story is excellent but I couldn’t listen to it past the first few chapters as the narration was so poor. The narrator uses the same sing-song inflections for each sentence and seems to struggle to give them meaning. The dialogue is better but not good enough to make the rest of it worth listening to.

Helen Mirren returns

Was a slow book in places but the story was true LLaP.
The narrator, I'd have sworn was Helen Mirren and had to double double check. Made the Tennison character come to life, shame she didn't do Prime Suspect.
Put it on your wish/short list, you won't be sorry.

Shame about the performance

The reader does dialogue very well, but reads the narrative bits dreadfully by putting too much drama into it which results in disjointed sentences. It was very irritating. Please don’t spoil La Plantes marvellous stories with her again.
