Critic reviews

"When it comes to scenes of brutal horror and storytelling as sharp as a machete's edge, Terry M. West is one of the masters." (Bob Milne, Beauty in Ruins

Dark and Creepy Short Story

Terry M West has a huge spectrum of writing and this story just shows how versatile he can be. Like most of his horror stories, this one is dark, gruesome, and very twisted. Out of all of West’s stories I have had the pleasure of listening to, this one was the hardest one to listen to. Definitely a book for hardcore horror fans.

Paul Bert did a great job with the narration. I liked his character voices and thought he really brought the story to life. His cadence and energy he puts into his narration did a great job getting me creeped out.

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

Horror filled short story

The Devil's List is a gruesome short story filled with demons, murder, mental illness and a dysfunctional family. This is one story that is sure to give you nightmares. I highly recommend this book of you love horror with touches of realism. I received this book at my request and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review here of my own volition. This may be a short read but Terry M. West and Paul Butt together will make it a nightmare hard to wake up from.

Will Leave a Lasting Impression

This audiobook knocked the wind out me. As the story unfolds and the character of Chuck develops, my mind was racing, not knowing where to settle on how I felt. The violent acts committed are so vile that I was outraged and wanted to condemn Chuck, but then realized I couldn’t. To my horror, I was asking myself if his violence was acceptable, and once there, I couldn’t decide for which reason it would be. Was it because of the abuse he suffered as a child? Was it because he was possessed by a demon? Or was it something innate that he was marked with from birth? They all seemed valid. The inner struggle this audiobook gave me while listening truly speaks to its brilliance. Terry M. West’s writing is masterful and his story is remarkably crafted, especially in its economy. Not a single minute was wasted. West was somehow able to fit this complex story, with all its nuances, into a mere hour and thirty-seven minutes, and still bring it full circle. The entire experience is punctuated by a haunting narration given by Paul Burt. The voices he employed were carefully chosen and astoundingly varied, giving yet another appealing dimension to the listening experience.

The Devil's List

This was a decent short story. It was an audiobook and the only issue I had with the performance was the voice of the demon. Overall, the plot and the way it unfolded was well written. It was a sad story, really. Strange to feel bad for Chuck as he is a pretty messed up character.

It was ok

The story was short, not my usual thing. I like relatable killers.... haha! As in Dexter style. This was not a killer anyone could relate to. Ok be mad at your family for treating you like crap but all of this was a bit much. I did like the DFW setting. I frequently go out in some of the cities mentioned in the story.
Paul Burt did an excellent job narrating.
