About this listen

Alex Sheppard flies to the Demonic Games, hoping that he and his friends Malik and Tissa can do the impossible and achieve victory. Almost 400 players are invited to the Games, the best of the best from all walks of Dis. Champions of the arena and the battlefields, gryphon races and pet battles; the very best craftspeople and grand masters of their professions.... All of them await the arrival of Scyth the Class-A Threat, who must now prove his worth without his divine abilities to help him.

The series has always been a 'meh' one for me, so if you've really enjoyed the series, ignore this review. The series has only managed to keep me on hook by the narrowest of margins.

There's a semi-interesting dystopian world view portrayed briefly enough that with every new tidbit added to the last, compound together enough pull to get you wanting the next. The author played on this well with an awakening of a young mind struggling to terms with world views never challenged before across the series. It was this that kept me interested enough to overlook the poor structure of the series. Structure in terms of events, challenges and the extremely bad attempts at building tension. This has become notably worse as the series continued until we've arrived at the demonic games.

There is nothing interesting about this book. It's a chore to listen to. It's just a never ending spiral of false tension with lame situations to unbelievable retorts, bad dialogue and poor litrpg. I struggle to think of a book I've listened that I could rate as bad or worse than this. Honestly. It's genuinely terrible. This will be my 'go to' book when friends ask what the worst book you've read?

Couldn't finish it.
