Seventeen-year-old Evie Dasher knows firsthand the devastating consequences of humanity's war with the aliens. When she's caught up in a raid at a notorious club known as one of the few places where humans and the surviving Luxen can mingle freely, she meets Luc, an unnaturally beautiful guy she initially assumes is a Luxen...but is in fact something much more powerful. LUC is BACK!!

Luc is back everyone!!

Ok if you are a fan of the Lux series then you know, you know how long we have all wanted a Luc story. I think this was perfect it was exactly how it should have been. Now that I am done I WANT MORE!! Like yesterday but all things in time. ;)
Does not mean I can not want it. :P
Do not judge me! Haha

Evie is amazing; I just enjoyed her character even when things come up she is authentically herself and that is rare for characters to still feel like they do at the beginning to the end when so much happens.
We did get a few of our old friends and as much as I missed them I am glad we did not get too much of them because I really think this book needed to be about Luc.

Now for the narrator, Saskia is amazing I enjoyed her performance she really brings the story to life and can keep you interested and enjoyed it and hope she continues to narrate this series.

This was beyond amazing in typical JLA style

DS was my most expected book for this year and it was definitely worth the wait. I am such a crazy fan of Lux and have read the series more times that I could count. So being back in this world was like a dream come true, like coming home after being away for a while. I haven’t realized how badly I missed the whole gang. And my heart was overflowing with so many emotions the moment I stepped back in the Lux universe. And the audio is great. This voice is so Evie <3 Loved it <3

Luc was his typical overconfident, a little arrogant and a lot awesome self. I laughed a lot with him in here, but there was this sweet, caring, overprotective side of him that we saw a lot and it would absolutely make you swoon. He was just the perfect, dreamy BBF material.

I was kind of surprised at the beginning that the whole book was told from Evie’s POV, but her backstory was so intriguing that it sucked me in from page one. She seemed like the normal, regular kind of girl with very human hobbies and interests. But she was anything but that. There were lots of things about her that were revealed one after another and kept my interest to the very end. She was a true enigma and still is, even though lots of questions were answered there are a ton more that are still running in my mind.

The love between Luc and Evie was a slow-burning one and I really liked the fact he was so attentive and gave her the space she needed to come to terms with the relationship they were building. I never took him for the patient type, but apparently, he somehow changed through the years and grew a little in a very good way. Be prepared to sigh and drool a lot during this book.

But also expect a lot of action, some epic battles and some very intensive and nail-biting moments in typical JLA style. I absolutely forgot how awesome Luc was and the extent of his abilities. He showed some serious powers and I really enjoyed seeing him in fight-mode. He was awesome, as well as some other very well known friends who made an appearance.

Seriously, I wouldn’t have dreamt of a better spin-off to Lux series. I absolutely loved it. So many emotional moments, so many twists and turns, so many secrets revealed, so many new favorite characters made and so much more to come. All the feels, all the stars, top read for the year and a new favorite book couple. Great come-back in the Lux universe and holy alien babies, I need moreeeeeeee!

Just your average teenager book

That narrator was an average performer. It was difficult to differentiate between different characters who were talking in a conversation because she wasn't able to change her voice well. The storyline and plot were simple and predictable. The hero was not really swoonworthy. He was nice, but not romantic enough. He was supposed to be the strongest guy but he still got his butt whooped bad. predictable predictable predictable! unfortunately, I lost interest in the first few chapters and went and listen ed to another audible book and made myself come back to finish this book because I can't leave books unfinished, even as awful as this one was. Sorry to all the fans, but this one was just MEH!

Love the universe

I believe the universe and the characters are all quite interesting in all the novels, especially since they do have relative solid backgrounds and personalities. The only thing which I don't particularly like is that the author has tendency to elongate the first part of the story, which mostly focus on ogling the main male character a little too much and not making the story flow as it could. But in general, I could say the book does promise a good series!

Lux series continues

I recently finished the Lux series and was super excited to hear the books were continuing with the Origins. I felt like the book was more powerful because I had read the Lux series , so I highly recommend that. This book provided some twist and turns which I enjoyed. The relationship between the two characters is written well. I would have liked more closure but will have to wait for the next book. I love series books but hate the long wait for them. Origin book 2 coming in 2019. Uggghggg

Loved this!

The Darkest Star is a must read for Lux fans. I love Luc!

My thoughts

I loved being back in the world of Lux! Over the summer I finished the Lux series, so the story and characters are still fresh in my mind. The Darkest Star picks up several years after the finale in the Lux series. The world is different now that the truth of the Luxen alien’s existence has come to light. Evie Dasher is your normal teenager, juggling high school and a social life. Breaking the rules, she and her friend go to a night club for Luxens and humans. The night doesn’t turn out as planned when Evie meets Luc, a Luxen with a bad boy attitude, and the club gets raided. A rocky start to their relationship leads to further complications and unusual deaths in their small-town. The Luxens integration into society has not been equally welcomed by the humans, which mirrors the American social unrest of the segregated schools in the 60’s and the current political state of immigrants. As frustrating as it was, I think the author made a good choice of including this tension in the story so young readers can view how fear can drive people to panic and treat others cruelly.

This book has the same formula as the Lux series - a cocky alien and a strong-willed human. Evie is tough and smart, but at times her stubbornness annoyed me. But Luc is perfect! He has the cocky attitude but when his secrets are revealed you can’t help but fall in love with him. I loved their banter and chemistry, and their connection was partly predictable and shocking.

This book is a spinoff, but you don’t need to read the Lux series. I highly recommend you do since Daemon and Archer make cameos, and you don’t want to miss all the swoon worthy moments with Daemon in the other books. I love the other characters making an appearance and being mentioned, so I hope in the next books we get to see more of my favorite characters.

This was my first time listening to narrator Saskia Maarleveld and I enjoyed her performance. She sounds like Justine Eyre (the narrator for the Lux series) so it was an easy transition to a new narrator and series. The character voices and personalities were spot on and added life to the story.

The Darkest Star has it all – romance, action, suspense and comedy. I took my time to read this book because I didn’t want this to end. This was a great start to a new series with characters I’ve grown to love. I can’t wait to read the next book!

Great start to a series.

Well paced, enough bits of personal background information spread out evenly to keep you interested, without weighing down the pace of the story. It works well as a stand-alone but when I finished I was mildly curios to know what happened next, which is always a good sign. The narrator is perfect and creates the different voices with small shifts and personal tones. A real pleasure to listen to.

Fun, kickass, swoonworthy

it was amazing to dive back into the Lux series and finally get to know more about the hilarious "teen mafioso" we met previously that is Luc. The fact that we get to find out more about this mysterious and powerful guy through Evie's eyes knowing who she is makes it a bit more special, I think. I am already itching to grab me Book 2. October 2019 can't come fast enough!
