Summary

ONCE, SHE SAVED HIS LIFE...

NOW, HE'LL TAKE HERS.

When a baby is snatched from its pram and cast into the river Thames, off-duty police officer Lacey Flint is there to prevent disaster. But who would want to hurt a child?

DCI Mark Joesbury has been expecting this. Monitoring a complex network of dark web sites, Joesbury and his team have spotted a new terrorist threat from the extremist, women-hating, group known as 'incels' or 'involuntary celibates.' Joesbury's team are trying to infiltrate the ring of power at its core, but the dark web is built for anonymity, and the incel army is vast.

Pressure builds when the team learn the snatched child was just the first in a series of violent attacks designed to terrorise women. Worse, the leaders of the movement seem to have singled out Lacey as the embodiment of everything they hate, placing her in terrible danger...

NoooOOoo! Can’t leave it like that 🤦‍♀️

Love the Lacey flint series. I do recommend reading them in order so you can get the full enjoyment of the storylines running thru them.
Brilliant book, fast paced crime thriller which I like. The last 2hours I was on edge of my seat, and what a last line! 😱😱😱
Please please say the next Lacey book is coming soon as I’ve binged the rest of them and now I feel lost!

Brilliant

The Lacey Flint books are brilliant, and this one is no exception. Thrilling storyline, interesting characters and even a sweet lovestory to root for. I hope the authors other books are as good, while I wait for next one.

Well written and good narration

I got this on an audible deal as it looked interesting, however I think it was 5th in the Lacey Flint series, so I’m annoyed I haven’t read any before, as I thoroughly enjoyed it, will definitely look out for more Sharon Bolton books.

Absolutely superb. A must read for anyone.

Such a powerful and important subject at its core - the insidious and horrifying reality of the Incel movement. So we’ll written. Unflinching and brutally honest portrayal of this group. A wonderful side story about Lacey’s true past and a wonderful group of supporting characters. And the cherry on top - the stunning narration. Can’t wait to read or listen to the others in this series and all of Sharon Bolton’s other novels. Have read ‘The Craftsman’ and it’s a corker too! My new favourite author.

Ticked my boxes

Great writing, narration, story and characters. What more can you ask for? Very female led too.

Interesting locations

Although the broad brush strokes of the plot are not always credible , the writing of each scenario is brilliant. There was a riverside rescue which was particularly engaging
The river side and London settings are the star and the voice performance is exceptional.
Suspend belief and enjoy. It is thought provoking and entertaing in equal measure.
There iare obviously back stories to the characters and I was new to the series so perhaps read the series on order but there was enough recap for me to work some of it out.

Lacey Flint

Our heroine has more shocks and cunning criminals to overcome. Gripping and taut as we ve come to expect from Sharon Bolton. If you’ve been following Lacey from the start you ll gulp this one down!
Admirably narrated too .

Another really good outing for Flint and co.

I think it might be best to read the series in order so it doesn't spoil the surprises that are in the earlier books, as this carries on with the same main characters.
I love Lacey Flint and Mark Joesbury.
I was a bit anxious about whether this book would be up to the same standard as the others as it has been a fairly long gap but I needn't have worried.
This is full of the usual action, angst and adventure. As usual Lacey finds herself in the thick of it. As the story develops we discover a little more about her background, and once again she is under threat of exposure about her past. I also enjoyed meeting the others we have come to know and to see how they react to the way the world is going, especially in their new circumstances. I would have like a little more of Stenning, Mizon and Anderson but we can't have everything.
The writing, the pace, the characterisation and the plot are all really good and very well executed.
This is a 4 star read because I feel it is a little obvious about who the mole is, however this doesn't spoil the overall story.
I listened to the audio version and this was well narrated although there are a couple of minor editing glitches.
