About this listen

Bloomsbury Presents The Coven by Graham Masterton, read by Emma Gregory.

They say the girls were witches. But Beatrice Scarlet, the apothecary's daughter, is sure they were innocent victims...

London, 1758:

Beatrice Scarlet, the apothecary's daughter, has found a position at St Mary Magdalene's Refuge for fallen women. The charity is supported by a wealthy merchant who offers the most promising girls steady work in his factory. But when seven girls go missing, Beatrice is uneasy.

Their would-be benefactor claims they were a coven of witches, beholden only to Satan and his demonic misdeeds. But Beatrice is convinced something much darker than witchcraft is at play...©2025 Graham Masterton (P)2025 Bloomsbury Publishing Plc

I honestly wasn't sure i was going to enjoy this book, even though I absolutely love the author and have listened to all his book but im so glad I gave it a chance as it ended up being one of my favourite storylines ever!! Now don't get me wrong parts of the book require you to have a very strong stomach but you got to remember that back in those times things happened that we could never even imagine and the way people thought and acted are polar opposite to how we do today. I know that some parts of the storyline may have been exaggerated slightly but the unfortunate thing is their lives were unimaginably difficult. Saying that there are so many wonderful characters and so many lovely, sweet bits too. I really hope and pray that we will get to hear from Scarlet, Noah & Florence again VERY soon. Thank you Graham for another enjoyable masterpiece with more twists and turns than you can shake a stick at.
