Story
In the quiet, wealthy enclave of Brecken Hill, an older couple is brutally murdered hours after a tense Easter dinner with their three adult children. Who, of course, are devastated. Or are they? They each stand to inherit millions. They were never a happy family, thanks to their vindictive father and neglectful mother, but perhaps one of them is more disturbed than anyone knew. Did someone snap after that dreadful evening? Or did another person appear later that night with the worst of intentions? That must be what happened.

Story
It can be hard keeping secrets in a tight-knit neighbourhood. In a tranquil, leafy suburb of ordinary streets - one where everyone is polite and friendly - an anonymous note has been left at some of the houses. ‘I’m so sorry. My son has been getting into people’s houses. He’s broken into yours.’ Who is this boy, and what might he have uncovered? As whispers start to circulate, suspicion mounts. And when a missing local woman is found murdered, the tension reaches breaking point. Who killed her? Who knows more than they’re telling?

When you listen to this audiobook, you will make many assumptions. It's about a jealous wife obsessed with her replacement. It's about a younger woman set to marry the man she loves. The first wife seems like a disaster; her replacement is the perfect woman. You will assume you know the motives, the history, the anatomy of the relationships. You will be wrong.

Summary
The No. 1 Sunday Times best-seller and WHSmith Book of the Year 2016
People are capable of almost anything.
Fast-paced and addictive, The Couple Next Door announces a major new talent in thriller writing.
You never know what's happening on the other side of the wall.
Your neighbour told you that she didn't want your six-month-old daughter at the dinner party. Nothing personal, she just couldn't stand her crying.
Your husband said it would be fine. After all, you live only next door. You'll have the baby monitor, and you'll take it in turns to go back every half hour.
Your daughter was sleeping when you checked on her last. But now, as you race up the stairs in your deathly quiet house, your worst fears are realised. She's gone.
You've never had to call the police before. But now they're in your home, and who knows what they'll find there.
What would you be capable of when pushed past your limit?
Critic reviews
"Meticulously crafted and razor-sharp. The Couple Next Door lingers long after you turn the final page." (Harlan Coben)
"How well do we ever know those around us? The Couple Next Door will keep you glued to the pages in search of the answer. Even then, you'll never guess the truth...until it's too late." (Lisa Gardner)

A few hours I won't get back
Truly ridiculous story line. I'll be getting a refund on this book. Ludicrous story line and so many repetitive 'he says' that it drove me mad. Surely a decent author comes up with other words and ways to narrate speech between characters? Poor story. Just can't recommend

Is this meant to be a joke?
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
A better plot, more believable characters, an ending that did not feel as if the writer had become desperate to finish it!
Has The Couple Next Door put you off other books in this genre?
Not at all!
Would you be willing to try another one of Kirsten Potter’s performances?
Almost certaintainly not.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
..Anger that something so poor could have received recommendations from publishers and reviewers.
Any additional comments?
A good idea wasted is my reaction.

Ive listened to this book three times now and it never gets old. The story is amazing, so gripping. The audio quality is amazing and the way potter changes her voice for each character brings even more character to the book. The Couple Next Door
Would prefer to have read this myself, as the accent put me off from the start. Persevered as I had paid for the recording.
RESULT: Storyline was good, but I found the initial drawling accent of the narrator irritating. She settled into more plausible individual character voices towards the end.

Good read
Where does The Couple Next Door rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This was my first audiobook. It won't be my last.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Couple Next Door?
Realizing the plot and who was involved. Don't want to give anything away to the readers who have not yet read the book.
What about Kirsten Potter’s performance did you like?
Great narrator. Enjoyed her voice, found it quite expressive.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I'm afraid not.
Any additional comments?
Good read/listen. Nice twist at the end.

An excellent thriller with many twists and turns
If you could sum up The Couple Next Door in three words, what would they be?
Riveting, believable, fast-paced
What did you like best about this story?
It has many unexpected twists. The plot attracted me but the actual story was even better than I anticipated. The story was very well told with plenty of detail but not so much that it was boring or monotonous.
What does Kirsten Potter bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Her voice brought the characters to life. They were all well developed and believable.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The incident in the school bathroom. Without giving anything away it was quite shocking.
Any additional comments?
Highly recommend this book. I enjoyed the whole story. The baby's mother's story was well thought out and had a lot of depth.
