About this listen

Neil Kettle is a detective chief inspector with Devon and Cornwall Police Force, in charge of the major crime investigation team. A widower, he comes through depression by using his work as support.

A countryman, the son of a farmer, Neil is in touch with the landscape as he hunts down serial killers, murderers, drugs and weapons smugglers, human traffickers, rustlers, and even the Beast of Bodmin Moor. A country copper with a strange mind, a weary heart, and quick fists. What could possibly go wrong?

It was a very enjoyable story, the bad pronunciation on a lot of words I found really annoying and off putting, which detracted from the overall enjoyment.
The narration was very monotone, if you aren't careful you can loose the plot a bit and loose which character it talking.

Good Story.

Managed to finish 1st book - just to hear outcome. Cannot bring myself to listen to other books in set.

Horrendously boring narration

Stumbled upon this by accident, the first story is let down slightly by the poor quality of the recording, however, the storylines, characters and everything else are great, also well researched, I like the fact that although set in Cornwall, there are fictional locations as well as real ones, I've really enjoyed this series.

Great story lines, well written.

Fluctuations in the quality and volume of the audio, during the first book I found really frustrating. Working with audio, I cannot understand how this recording passed even basic quality checks.

The author should not have narrated this collection. As a writer, his stories are very good but, as a storyteller, he shouldn't give up the day job. His delivery is monotonous, some words mumbled and/or stumbled over and generally does nothing to encourage the listener to engage with the story.

I don't like being critical as I know I couldn't write or narrate anything but, I know my limitations. A professional performer would have enhanced this series no end.

Great stories, poor delivery.

The stories are reasonable. 5 stories that form a series following the main characters through a series of cases.
However the narrator is monotonous with his monotone voice distracting from the stories.

Poor narrator
