Leave the rat race behind. Join our commune. Don't worry, it will be fine…

Luke Bridestone flees London for a fresh start in a remote, off-grid commune. Nine days later, he is found in a coma. His fellow commune members lie dead in the forest.

Was it the work of a brutal intruder or something darker lurking within?

To find out, we need to go back to the beginning: a rainy day in July, a clearing in the forest, thatched cabins and woodsmoke – and the ominous signs of the dangers to come.

I loved the dialogue, it was very English, in an unusual way. I'm not a fan of 'Cosy 'crime fiction' so I liked this.

interesting characters, great twists

It's almost a year to the day since I last read a book by this author and after totally devouring The Game and loving it - I was so excited to dive into this new release.

This storyline was quite different - both to The Game and also to any of the other commune stories I've read in the past.
This was a complex story that had me coming up with different theories along the way and I loved how things changed at each page turn.

Luke heads off to join the commune after fleeing London and the chaos that life has become.
Nine days later, he's the only member left alive, but what happened over that time?
Well, Luke is in a coma and we have to follow the story over a dual timeline to slowly unravel the events that led up to this point.

I loved how we learn about how the commune was formed and about all the people who join - but the suspense builds as we wait to find out what happened to each of the characters, before leaving only one.

The writing here set a good atmosphere, but this was less thriller and much more suspense and intrigue.
Not as fast-paced as my last read, but equally compelling.

Another great read from this author and I'm looking forward to seeing what comes next.

I don’t even know where to begin but that was bloomin’ brilliant!
I can’t lie, I thought I was gonna get lost in a convoluted story with too many characters but, nope, it was brilliantly executed and, although complex with multiple characters, it was easy to follow the ever evolving plot.

I loved how the chapters changed from before and after the reckoning, helping give you a new perspective, understanding and theories of what happened. I was completely immersed.
The setting was perfect as the isolated woods help create the tension atmosphere showing that The Commune definitely wasn’t the idyllic sanctuary they were hoping for.

What really had me were the twists! I thought I knew the rough direction this was going in but I was wrong and I love that.

The audio narration was amazing. He was able to capture and portray the emotions of the scene brilliantly. I was able to feel the fear, sadness and tension (to name a few), in his voice, that heightened my experience. He had me completely gripped by the story that was unfolding. Loved it. 🥰

Fantastic & gripping psychological thriller

I will say it again .... this book was absolutely bonkers!

I have read it and now I have listened to the audiobook as well and let me tell you Stu Summers did a fantastic job!

Along with the incredible writing from Danny Dagan these two orchestrated a symphony in my head! Words were turning into feelings and I got a whole new layer added to the already creepy tension that is this book!.

Commune living seems like a welcome escape from this drap and demanding world, perhaps even something I would consider, that is until I read this. This is fast paced and riddled with twists and revelations! Perfect for psychological thriller fans.
