About this listen

The Cat Who Cracked a Cold Case by L T Shearer is a charming cosy crime listen for fans of Richard Osman and S. J. Bennett.

A crime gone unsolved for five years . . .

The life of Lulu Lewis, a retired police detective, took an unforgettable turn when Conrad first introduced himself to her. Unforgettable because:

a) Conrad is a special cat.

b) Special because he told her so.

Yes, that’s right, he can talk.

(For obvious reasons, this ability remains a closely guarded secret while they live together on her canal boat, The Lark.)

Visiting an old friend in Manchester, the pair stumble across a chilling news report about a trail of bodies found across the city that echo a string of cold case murders from Lulu’s past in London.

Joining forces with the local police, the pair must use every ounce of their intuition in order to find a connection between the seemingly random killings – and track down a ruthless murderer . . .

Critic reviews

A charming, off-beat story with some great characters. I’m sure it will make readers long for their own canal boat, and quite possibly – if they don’t already have one – their own talking cat. Conrad is a delight (SJ Bennett, author of A Death in Diamonds on The Cat Who Caught a Killer)
Charming and original. This book is the cat’s whiskers (Anthony Horowitz, author of Close to Death on The Cat Who Caught a Killer)
A captivating, charming and gentle tale, perfect for all those who love their crime cosy (Peter James, author of One of Us Is Dead on The Cat Who Caught a Killer)
A fabulous country mansion, an art heist and my favourite detective duo, Lulu and Conrad the Cat: this had me curled up and purring from first page to last (Orlando Murrin, author of Knife Skills for Beginners on Cat Who Solved Three Murders)
A terrific read - murder, arson and a cat who is so much more than he seems! (J. M. Hall, author of A Spoonful of Murder on Cat Who Solved Three Murders)

having lived next to the Bridgewater canal and moved away from Manchester I loved reading Conrad and Lulu's holiday to Manchester. As well written and well performed (on audio book) as their other adventures this lovely cosy crime book will make you smile and warm your heart.

Conrad and Lulu up north!

Which I actually enjoyed! The narration is a little irksome still but I’m committed to Conrad now. Speaking of which, need more Conrad in the books.

Much darker than the previous 2
