Story
The six of us arrived on that beautiful Greek island dreaming of sun-drenched beaches and blood-orange sunsets, ready to lose ourselves in the wild freedom of a weekend away with friends. On the first night, we swam under a blanket of stars. On the second night, the games began on our clifftop terrace. On the third night, the idyll cracked, secrets and lies whispering on the breeze. And by the final night, there was a body on the rocks below.

As if someone has discovered the secrets that keep her awake at night. As fear and paranoia close in, Elle's own home becomes a prison. Summary
A Waterstones Thriller of the Month selection and the Sunday Times best seller
A secret beach.
A holiday of a lifetime.
Wish you were here?
Think again....
You wake on a beautiful, remote island.
Sparkling blue seas, golden sunsets, barely a footprint in the sand.
Yet this is no ordinary escape.
Next to the wreck of a plane, a stranger paces. Another sharpens a knife, scoring a list of the dead onto a palm tree. Others watch from the shadows of a campfire—all with untold stories and closely guarded secrets....
This is no ordinary holiday.
This is no ordinary island.
This is no ordinary book for the beach.
Gripping, twisty and full of sun-soaked atmosphere, The Castaways will whisk you far away to the island—and never let you go.
Critic reviews
"Beautifully-written, we’re tipping it as one of 2021’s best reads." (Marie Claire)
"Totally addictive, clever and atmospheric. It’s a rare thriller that melts your heart as well as it keeps you turning the pages, but Lucy Clarke has pulled it off." (Erin Kelly)
"Tense, unnerving and emotional." (C. L. Taylor)

Fabulous
I absolutely love Lucy Clarke’s writing. Perfect for lockdown where we are stuck at home she has the ability to transport you to far flung destinations and make you feel like you can feel the sun beating down and the heat the insects in the background.
I wizzed through this gripped to find out what had happened.

Incredible until end
I loved it until the end.. I felt that the end could have gone better it was almost like she had this amazing story and didn’t know how to end it..
It’s a shame because if the ending had been different I would have said this was my favourite book.. it may me cry because I felt such a connection with the characters but I’m so disappointed by the end. It’s just not very believable with their relationship between the sisters

better as a real book than audio
because you need to be able to skim through the overblown repetitive parts. chapter 65 is especially in need of a brutal edit and there’s one chapter in which a character puts her dress on... and then puts it in again a lime later. what are editors doing for their money these days, i often wonder

I couldn't put this down!
The story was well laid out and didn't drag or feel too unbelievable for a fiction. I enjoyed the description of the island and it reminded me of the TV show Lost. It may be a disaster but there was something warming and nurturing also happening, with human bonds being a large part of the story. The narrators did a great job in bringing the sisters to life.

The then and the now 😳😄😢
To discover a novel as adventurous as this pressed all the right buttons for me. I much prefer books about survival, about living in remote places, especially on islands. Whichever hemisphere they might be in. This book however tells the story from almost two different prospectives that eventually marry in a way that the reader might never have envisaged.
