Summary

Australian crime reporter Maddie Grey is out of her depth in New York, miserable, and secretly drawn to her powerful, twice-married media mogul boss, Elena Bartell, who eats failing newspapers for breakfast. As work takes them to Australia, Maddie is goaded into a brief, seemingly harmless bet with her enigmatic boss - where they have to tell the complete truth to each other. It backfires catastrophically.

Outstanding

The prose was glorious. Crafted and polished with some real gems that made me sit up and admire the writing.
The story was fresh and really interesting.
The narration was excellent and it really brought the characters to life, an extra layer on top of the excellent writing.
I could feel the experience of the writer, Lee Winter certainly knows how to craft and deliver a story.
Great read.

Very surprising!

A lot of other reviewers said it is like The Devil Wears Prada, but in only context of the fashion industry. I really enjoyed the book and the narrator did a good job with the different voices and accents. It was also nice to have a romantic novel without the sex scenes every other page. It’s has also a good message of how truthfulness can be a hinderance or allowing for further dialogue. I do hope I can more of the author’s work on Audible. I literally couldn’t put down my headphones.

An outstanding book

I absolutely loved the book when I read it. I loved the interaction between the two main characters and how hints at Elena's character were revealed. It was fun reading about their interactions and Elena's reluctant toleration of Maddie growing to an appreciation and a need. This harkens back to old black and white movies with witty banter between the two main characters.

But Ms Dawe turns out to vastly enhance the book, which i didn't think possible. She perfectly conveys Maddie's emotions and provides a really humanizing portrayal of Maddie, especially her shock and embarrasment, which happens a lot in this book. She makes Maddie completely adorable and wonderful.

She also makes Felicity just borderline awful, but just the right side of awfully high strung.

This is one of my favorite audiobooks.

This has to be one of my all time favorites. The narration is the BEST I've heard and I've heard over a hundred books. I can't recommend this book enough. Great characters, great story.

Excellent Audio!

I loved The Brutal Truth. It's a cross between an Ice Queen romance and a falling for your boss workplace romance. I thought both main characters were very relatable. Angela Dawe does an excellent job with the narration.

Very entertaining

I haven't read The Brutal Truth before listening to this audiobook, so this was the first time I met the story.
It's clearly based on The Devil Wears Prada, but it's very well written and very entertaining.
And the narrator Angela Dawe was amazing with all the different accents and voices, but also with story telling - an absolute delight and this story lets her show her talent. Brilliant.

Excellent!

This is a re-read. I originally read the ebook and loved it - 5 Stars. I didn't think I could love the book even more before I listened to this audiobook. The narrator, Angela Dawe is excellent, especially with Maddie's Aussie accent. I can't vouch for the authenticity, but it sure added to the enjoyment of this book.

So 6 stars - an extra star for Dawe.

speechless

I am blown away! I listen to many audio books, as I am in my car quite a lot for work. This is the best audio book I have ever listen to. I usually read the books first and get the audio book after, in this case, I'm glad I did. Ms. Dawe brought this book to life, it went from being a good book to being one of the best books I have ever had the pleasure to read, or should I say listen to. Well done.

Bloody brilliant!!

This story was excellent it exceeded my wildest expectations. The narrator did all the characters justice. The only critique I can give is how this story's torturous and tantalizing slow burn kept me on the edge of my seat till I reached the end.

Great on Kindle, even better in audio.

Loved this book when I read it on Kindle, so I was excited to see the audio version. I'd forgotten just enough of the story to make this reading just as exciting as the first time. Great narration (I especially love the way Dawe did different accents) and well worth listening to.
