About this listen

1795, and a young woman travels from Cambridge to the Suffolk coast. Her name is Mary Finch, and she has been invited to meet her wealthy uncle - and so end a family estrangement that has held fast for more than twenty years. Smart, courageous and blessed with good looks if not good fortune, Mary is excited by the prospect of adventure, and the chance to escape a miserable future teaching at Mrs Bunbury's school for young ladies.

But a whispered warning from a man dying on the road, who carries a strangely familiar watch bearing her uncle's initials, exposes her to a ruthless conspiracy that threatens not only her family's reputation, but her very life...

Great book

This book had so much "adventure" in its journey and was so difficult to sort friend from foe to begin with that I enjoyed it from the start.
I have read the paperback version of book 2 but would really like it to be available on Audible as I generally follow up my paperback readings with being read to while I am working.
The narrator did very well on the whole but had difficulty mainly with the men's voices and using the same one cpntinually for an individual.

A different sort of book for me

...with a little bit of thriller.
I always liked this story. I have it in ppb. It is the first in a splendid series of Regency romantic adventures featuring Miss Mary Finch and Captain Holland, but this audio book is absolutely wonderful. Jane Collingwood does a fantastic job and brings Mary, in particular, to life. I really recommend this to all lovers of Regency period romance with an added dash of wickedness from those dastardly French Revolutionaries. Take a chance, it's well worth it.
I hope Audibles release the next two soon?

Ladylike historical romance...

I have this book in print as well, but Jane Collingwood narrates it perfectly and it’s only a shame she hasn’t narrated the other two books in the series as I’d love to have the complete set to listen to in the car or in bed

Love this story and love the reader
