About this listen

Secrets, rivalry, glamour - it's time for the party of the year....

Delilah has lived out her tempestuous marriage to hell-raiser Raf in the glare of the media spotlight. Now planning a milestone birthday, she has more on her mind than invitations.

Raf has been offered a part in a movie he can't refuse. But will he succumb to the temptations he's struggled to resist for the last ten years?

Delilah's three daughters are building careers of their own, only too aware that the press are waiting for them to slip up. For the Rafferty girls might look like angels, but they are only human.

It's the perfect recipe for a party like no other....

The story is good, though the medical details in the later chapters are fairly inaccurate. Too much name dropping for items of clothing and furniture etc, presumably to emphasise how rich the main characters are.
Worst of all are the strange voices the narrator gives the characters.
Other than those gripes, it is an agreeable story with an implausible happy end.

Odd voices from the narrator

I love all Veronica Henry’s stories,I found this one a little slow to get into but then it fulfilled all expectations, great.

Good story but why, oh why, does the narrator have to give most characters a ridiculous voice. There's Tiger sounding like a two-year old on helium and Raff, a supposedly 50ish attractive man sounding more like a mumbling old fool of 90. The only normal sounding person is Delilah. The women sound like pantomime characters and the men like Dick van Dyke in Mary Poppins attempting a very bad cockney accent. Just read the story for goodness sake and leave the rest to the readers imagination!

Ruined by strange voices!

Any additional comments?

I never thought I'd give up on a Veronica Henry, having devoured her Honeycote series, plus some standalones, but 5 hours in I can't warm to any of the characters except Polly and the young film producer.

Will they get it together? I'd like to think so but it'll take me over 9 hours to find out, so I'll pass. No problems with the narration, just that the book isn't for me.

Just not for me
